I don’t know, people think showing up on time is above and beyond. There is a disconnect here. What you think is above and beyond might not be.
Sure, but that goes both ways. For example, shitty leaders who think they can pay their people "market" and nothing counts as above and beyond.

Anti-Work movement?
I do think it’s a generational thing and todays entry workers expect all the benefits with none of the hard work….
I find myself after 30+ years of working my arse off and seeing the “success” wondering WHY I should continue down this righteous path when you’re constantly penalized for doing the right thing & Big Brother is going to confiscate whatever you have anyway…
I can’t quite bring myself to say frick it and be a lazy leech, but damn it’s tempting to chuck the stress & trade the gated Stepford life for a double wide, satellite dish, recliner & fishing pole…
I’ll revisit this after the midterm elections….

Why retire? Sounds lazy as hell.

Congrats on your corporate stagnation!
I'm doing fine
I've put in many years going above and beyond
Have to have some balance. I do a good job but I don't work as hard as I did in my 30s. Just don't have the same energy

And quiet quitting???
This makes no sense to me. People are miserable at their jobs, but instead of actually quitting and finding something that actually gives them purpose, they can't even be bothered to put forth more than the bare minimum to change their circumstances.
I guess it's consistent at least, they consistently put forth their bare minimum both at work and in their own lives.
It's rampant though, I was shocked by how popular the idea of quiet quitting is. I get not wanting to work for the rest of your life but at least have an exit plan. That requires effort though.

You're starting with a false premise.
Hating ones job isn't a requirement.

They call it work for a reason.

Busting your arse just to have stagnant wages and ever-increasing yearly healthcare cost rises while the guys at the top are getting paid hand over fist is a pretty good reason to say you're getting fricked.
Again, people who have always worked in sub 100 employee companies probably don't see this quite as much or to the degree as people in medium to large companies, but it's 100% a reality.
i work for a mom and pop shop. 5 employees.
decent 6 figure salary, work from home, company car, company credit card, set my own travel schedule. my boss can drive me nuts but he's a good dude and i can push back and we can handle our disagreements like men.
i've gotten recruited from some of our huge fortune 500 partners for maybe a 30-50k raise. required travel set by my sales rep, office most days of the week, no company car, HR, DEI, threat of being bought out every year, some CEO with no ear to the ground getting huge raises and golden parachutes... no thanks.
i'm not saying this group of millennials and gen z don't have legit complaints against some companies, but i also think they chose to take the easy route when they decided who to work for instead of helping build up a smaller business.
i'm proud as hell to be a part of our small company and what we do.

And you see both sides of the argument.
The people here that are staunchly dug in on the "these people are just lazy kids" likely come from the mom and pop side and have never done any real time in the corporate trenches (at least not in the last 15-20 years).

What’s with millennials and gen z always taking vacations?

i think those dug in people are saying "quit bitching and get out of the corporate trenches. it's an option."

I know, right?
When I was their age, I took half a day to get married and half a day when my kids were born then made up the time that weekend because I had work ethic. Never took a vacation until I was 48 and even then it was just a long weekend in Biloxi! Damn kids think they should just get everything for free!

Eh, I think they're more of the attitude of "quit bitching and work", which only goes so far.

Boomers: NoOnE wAnTs To WoRk AnYmOrE

“Quiet Quitting “ is a bs term. It’s okay for people to have boundaries such as not doing work they aren’t paid for, not responding to emails after hours, and not taking calls outside of working hours.
Sure if you’re a key employee, well compensated and have clear advancement potential, then sure go ahead and go above and beyond. But someone getting paid nothing special shouldn’t be expected to work like one of the owners; a random worker has no upside to doing that.

That is a job for a mom who quit her corporate accounting job to have kids who are now in school. I doubt finding a position targeted to a very select pool of candidates is useful. Also, it's bookkeeping at what is likely a small CPA firm.
