You can get monitoring software for WFH but that only tells so much IMO.
Pretty easy to tell who's working with my wife's company.
Task-based, meets a couple times a week with direct reports.
Kinda hard to pretend to work when you spend half the day on the phone with clients and coworkers.

Is she new fresh out of school?

True, but WFH is not the modern workspace. WFH is a bastardized model the plandemic forced on us, and the millenials can't seem to understand that you have to show up to keep a job.

I will say that the downside to WFH for productive people that are monitored with tacking software is that if they are too productive then the company will expect more and more out of them.
It really is a double-edged sword.
This reminds me of that stupid "quiet quitting" term made up to make it sound like doing the agreed to duties for the agreed to compensation is now a bad thing

The "culprit" is manufacturing jobs have been shifting away from the U.S. for decades. Without making stuff white collar jobs get more and more difficult to sustain in an economy. Before you can sustain a service economy (where most white collar jobs are) there needs to be a large enough manufacturing economy. Why do you think China positions themselves to be the biggest manufacturing center in the world? They know making stuff is important.

Not me. I hate working from home, but if I could work from home 1 day a week, I'd be able to get so much more menial banal shite done in that 1 day than I could in a whole week at the office, and that would free up my other 4 days for projects and other important work.

I don't know. I'm not nearly retarded enough to be a superintendent in this plant.

I don't understand the whole task-based assigning work to people. I am not a kindergarten teacher. My team has had their jobs outlined since day one. I don't micromanage but I expect to see the results. I also like to see ambition and not just doing enough to retain your job.
WFH has created the mindset of just doing enough to get by so you can go pick your kids up from school at 3 even though the work day isn't finished. Or let me get in one quick episode of a TV show during work hours because I am caught up for now.

Again, generalizations.
At my company, the oldest employees are the ones who take the most time off.

Either you get your work done in a satisfactory manner or you don't.
Exactly. You get your deliverables done on schedule or you dont. If you are able to play your PS5 half the time and get the job done, it isn't my business. If you choose to ask for more, rather than a PS5, you are a top performer.
Anti-WFH would rather you be in house, getting the same work done, but now spend your downtime wandering the office, talking to coworkers or just surfing the filtered web.

Those who choose to completely work remotely will realize how much easier it is to be fired. It’s no longer an employees job market
I think it’s more so that WFH exposed a lot of middle to upper management jobs that aren’t needed.

It isn't a bad thing but it goes back to what Musk has said about upper management or those wanting to be in management need to work from the office. He wants to see ambition.
If you are happy with your position then just do what the agreed-upon task is. If you want to move up then do a little more and show ambition.

This isn't some new unique phenomenon. Mike Judge literally discusses this in Office Space

Man, so now doing your agreed upon duties is failing now.

It's a giant law firm. A bunch of work has to be done to research cases. Lots of cold calling, interviews, vetting experts, etc. One department has to get their work done by a deadline so the next department can meet theirs.

That is easily done from home with results!

Yep.
If you sent a lot of people home and they're still getting their work done while a bunch of middle managers are twiddling their thumbs in the office, then who do you think is unnecessary?

Yea this is another reason Burry is saying white-collar jobs are in danger. If you and coworkers have enough time to gossip by the water cooler then clearly some of those people aren't needed.
It is funny that these tech giants created these adult daycares with slides, sleeping areas, game rooms, etc and are now against WFH.

a safe 70% of "titled" admins are redundant and should be eliminated.
