Since they know exactly the time the shooting happened because of the spotter, can they use that to investigate locations of mobile devices? I know they aren't supposed to track people but...don't they?
somebody posted this in the other thread...

I've seen this posted a couple times and want to address it as someone who has done it.
First, you have to write search warrants to every single cell company. It's a bunch.
In that you put the location of the crime and a time frame, along with the PC, which amounts to "We're out of fricking other options" as it is considered, legally, a huge invasion of privacy due to the blanket nature of the information requested.
Then you have to hope all the following occur:
You get those records back in a quick time fashion. Reality: it could be months for some of these half arse cell companies.
The cell towers are all in close proximity to the location. Otherwise you're going to get thousands upon thousands of numbers.
The perp or perps had a cell phone on them.
The perp or perps were registered to that number and it wasn't a prepaid phone or under another person's name.
By some miracle, you are able to narrow alllllll that down to a good suspect. Without additional evidence, it's worthless.
All that to say it can be done, should be done if necessary, but in no realm is it magic or anything other than a last ditch hail mary attempt.

Well scratch this option off the list now.

Based off of what?
Based off of common sense. I'm trying to dissuade young people in my life from going to LSU. It saddens me because I went there, but the fact is, it's a college next door to the hood where people get shot and robbed REGULARLY. Urban areas are less safe than ever before.
I'm just one among thousands who will look at LSU as unfavorable in light of this disgusting murder and so much more. LSU should be leveraging more of their influence to improve their surroundings. LaTech and ULM offer safer communities.

People in the hood don't have ring cameras. If they do, they are not going to provide them to law enforcement.
I work with a guy who lives in the hood.
He has ring and cameras all over his house.
That stuff is not very expensive and when you live in an area that you perceive or know that you will probably be robbed while at work, especially if you work night shifts, you will put those up to get the guys who do it.
It's amazing how ignorant most of you suburbanites are about what you think the "ghetto" is and the people who live there really are like.

ULL and probably Southeastern too.

Within the last decade or so Ole Miss has had a student drag a cop to his death, and another shot his pregnant girlfriend, unloaded every round into her, then propped her up at a picnic table like she was watching the sunrise over the lake for some jogger to find.
No where is safe, and LSU is no more dangerous than any major university for the students.
Y'all in here panicking about the non-students in the city being the biggest danger, while ignoring the fact that your daughters have a higher chance of being raped or harmed by the "well to do" frat boy from a good family.
You want to get angry at the media and police and people in power for something, get mad at them for not vigorously persuing these crimes and perpetrators.

Mickey Shunick.
Kidnapped while riding her bike home around the same time as this murder.

probably Southeastern too.
Four or five people ran over walking home from the bar.
No where is completely safe.

There are certain dangers that are unavoidable when sending your kids to college. Uncontrolled crime shouldn't be one of them.

This is simply not true. You mentioned Ole Miss, for instance. Are the crime rates in Oxford, MS anywhere near Baton Rouge?

He specifically mentioned campuses... For a reason. Because his post is fricking stupid.

False, “The Bottom” right outside of the north gates of campus is one of the most dangerous ghettos in the entire United States. The dangerous element north of Florida Boulevard uses Highland Rd daily, which cuts right through the heart of campus.
2 Indian PhD students who lived at the Edward Gay apartment complex, off of Aster St were stalked and brutally executed by a trio of tPOS while their hands had been bound by an extension cord while they pleaded and cried for their lives to be spared.
Your assessment is way off, and we haven’t even dwelled into the violent crime that exists in Tigerland

Obviously tragic, but the nature of Mickey Shunick's murder wasn't exactly commonplace. This was national news.
Allison Rice's murder points to an issue that has plagued BR for years which is violent street crime.

My definition of "safe" isn't "crime-free". That's impossible. I want crime to be controlled and minimized. That's not happening in BR right now.

Do they "talk" when they know the perps?
More often than not, no because of retaliation. Needs to be a concerted effort (good people) to take back their neighborhoods.

Like I said in the other thread: neither do the Italians or Irish or Russians when it comes to their gangs/Mafia.
This isn't exclusive to the black community.

Hence the word, "seemingly."
However, just playing the percentages, this was almost certainly a random carjacking or robbery attempt.

Not necessarily replying to your post. Just wanted to post this. Saw it on twitter.
Also, not that it matters, just curious—was she recently blond or brunette? I’m guessing blond because of the memorial pic. Either way, she really is a beautiful girl, and from all accounts sounded like a great person too. & had just landed a job in marketing (her major) with the American Dermatology Association. Seems like she had a bright future. Such a shame :(
