There is no question Jerry Jones ‘knows’ how to make money. He just doesn’t know how to run a sports franchise. Everyone on Earth knows this. Aborigines in the Outback know this.

He did one thing right and one thing only. He hired Jimmy Johnson. And tied to that was firing Tom Landry. He's done everything else wrong since then.

If the Cowboys have struggled all these years because of Jerry Jones ego and his refusal to hire people that would clearly do a better job running the team, does his 'ego' not tell him that just about every single Cowboy fan will be hugely relieved when he dies?
Not glad he suffered death. Just relieved he is out of the way. How does a guy with an ego like that not see this?

Most GM's are morons too. Look at the rest of the league. I understand what you're saying but if I'm an NFL owner I'd probably want to pick and choose just like he is.

I remember the carefully orchestrated media spin campaign in the NFL media about his personnel expertise because he assembled the greatest O-line in the history of football.

Yeah, about that......

And they'll still pay $80 to park near the stadium after he dies.

I’m not even a cowboy fan, but he has 3 Super Bowl wins.

Pretty damn good decision, though.

I think two statements are true.

1. The Cowboys franchise has been better off with Jones having bought it in 1989 than if he hadn’t. Unlikely to have three Super Bowls and the super nice stadium without him.

2. The Cowboys will be better off when Jones dies and that statement has probably been accurate for many years.

Put another way: The Cowboys were probably run as well from 1989-1993 as any other five year stretch by any franchise in the Super Bowl era. It’s sucked since. The 1994 NFCCG and 1995 Super Bowl were the result of decisions made from 1989-1993.

Jerry Jones has hired 8 different head coaches since he became owner. All but one had a winning record with the Cowboys. Dave Campo was the only bad hire.

You can argue that others were bad hires because even though they had success, they didn’t win as much as they should have. However, that would also be admitting that Jerry did something right by providing that coach with a talented roster.

Jerry is a wildcatter. A steady, consistent, reliable approach is not in his nature. He’s also rich and content. His early days of risk taking and innovation are over. He’s not going to take a chance on an outsider or innovator when he wins just enough to fool himself he’s doing most things correctly.

He’s only comfortable with people he knows or retreads.

He’s an awful micro manager owner.

Jerry hasn’t been relevant since the 90’s, and that was because of Jimmy.

More than any point in the past, he loves talking about the stadium and the Star development and all the money he’s made. You can tell that’s all he really cares about.

It really doesn’t make sense he wants to be GM. Use all that money and hire some competent people and win some SBs.

This is beyond a dead horse at this point, I realize, but he’s just gotten worse…

What if making money is his main objective? In that regard they've done a great job of running the franchise.

If I owned an NFL team I’d be involved in the football ops side too, otherwise what’s the point?
