Have any parents Not spoken to their teen/pre-teens about Fentanyl?

I’ve talked to my 12 yo daughter twice…not there is any hint of her seeking drugs, but I felt it was necessary. Basically told her not take anything from anyone and explained that some of this dangerous drug looked like candy.

Definitely a smart conversation to have. Seems like that shite is in everything these days

Spoke to both of my kids. I don't think it really registered in their brains though.

I’m not a parent and don’t plan on being one, but I agree this should be on parent’s minds.
I would do blow a couple times a year when I got together with the bros, but no chance I’d risk it at this point. I just assume every drug has been cut with it and having that in my mind has me totally disinterested in taking part.

They will just think you are being lame
To a 16 year old it is no different than telling them weed is bad
Some kids will continue to make dumb decisions based on what their friends do

Told my 11 year old to absolutely not take any medication unless we or school nurse give it, Also no candy from strangers or that kids bring to school. Pretty sad state of affairs for our country

Tell them no pills or powders. Look, kids are gonna drink and smoke if they want to. I’d rather them test the waters with that and know where to draw the hard line than playing the “all drugs are the same and evil” BS that just makes them taboo.
Too much bad shite out there and too many unscrupulous pushers who care about nothing.
This fentanyl shite is killing people who aren’t even trying to go down that road.

Girl just turned around and walked right back out. To this day we still wonder about that. She rarely and I mean rarely let's them go to the bathroom in public places for that reason now.
I cut out drugs about 15 years ago. This was one of the reasons. Not fentanyl, but people started cutting back, and there was no telling what was in what.

I agree it’s bad. But I have a question. News says one little pinch kills.
Then I hear that xxx amount of pounds was confiscated this week. That amount confiscated they claim could kill 450 million people
Now we know what’s confiscated is only a fraction to what is actually out on the streets.
So why hasn’t hundreds of millions dropped dead?

because there are not hundreds of millions of heroin/oxy users. The people dying from fent laced coke is cross contamination, believe it or not but drug dealers don't want to kill their customers so that is accidental.
The way the news says "this could kill 450k" is the same way that cops say that they took 20 million worth of coke off the street if all the coke was sold in grams to end users for $60 and not wholesale
ODs are up, you can see where LINK. All ODs are up but Opioids are the ones where you see big spike
i know of 3 od in the last year, 2 were almost certainly fent based on their past and the other i can't say.

Fentanyl has ruined my recreational cocaine use. Can’t trust anything anymore.

My drug speech to my 12 year old daughter had added emphasis because we were standing over my drug-addict father's grave. Seemed to hit home. Can't see her doing shite anyway; She won't even drink carbonated beverages.

Teach them to carry narcan. As a parent, go get it for them, contact your local harm reduction group, they give it to you for free. It will save their or their friends life.

I have a son who is about to be twelve and I have not. But I’m setting a reminder to do that this weekend because of this thread.

I’m just so glad Fentanyl wasn’t a thing when I was younger; I would be dead for sure

Yeah, Xanax and weed was enough... Once smoked a joint with cocaine added... Didn't know it was in there.

When I was in the 4th grade, one of my former classmates had been sent off to a private church school. He had sat next to me in third grade and we went to all the same social events.
He was only at the new school for less than a month when he was murdered. Our parents didn't tell us how. Hearing about his death was one thing; going to his high church funeral after lunch was one of the most memorable things.
Funerals would leave lasting impressions, if you were to find a young person in or near your community who died of fentanyl.
It's only with Google that I found details of who and a danced around how. I do wonder what happened to his murderer. It wasn't accidental.
