There was a truck in Lafayette selling “Rustin Peaches” on Friday last. BIG peaches as big as a baseball and almost as big as a softball. Hard not soft. And $9 for 7 peaches. For those who know, does that sound right?

Ruston peaches
Ponchatoula strawberries
Plaquemines parish oranges
Washington parish watermelons
That’s the only places to buy those particular fruits. Man prices on everything is sky high sounds about right with Brandon factor applied

Expect pay $2-$3 a pound Figure 2or3 to the pound This guy sounds like what they are going for these days.

All peaches I see have been coming out of California lately

If the peaches when buying are at room temperature..Put them in a brown paper bag...They will ripen...I just picked some from Walmart ,let them ripen 3-4 days...These are better than any that I have eaten all summer long..Nothing better than ripe peaches eaten at room temperature.

Real Ruston peaches are some of the best peaches you’ll ever eat.
I’m not saying the peaches you saw aren’t Ruston peaches but usually the Ruston peach festival is in June and that is supposed to be when their peaches are at their best. I don’t know how long the prime growing season is but we’re way past June.

Peaches grown in the Ruston-Calhoun area. Picked local so very fresh, several varieties grown there. Definitely worth a little extra

They said it was their last week for Ruston peaches. But I didn’t think Ruston peaches were big peaches. More like the size of a satsuma not a grapefruit.

Unfortunately there is only one remaining peach orchard in Ruston - Mitchum. Not sure how much longer any of us will be able to get true Ruston peaches. The best hands down.

If they are rustin, you may want to try some WD-40 on them.

Def a rip-off/knockoff if you are buying "Rustin Peaches".

We went to the Ruston peach festival last year and bought 2 cases of peaches from an "official" stand in the main booth area.

Once home we found the peaches inedible, hard and many rotten ones in the bottom half of the case. We only were able to consume a half dozen or so from 2 full cases. Wife found a packing slip showing the peaches were from a california or georgia orchard (I forget which). The booth had signs with "Ruston Peaches"...

After many years of attending the peach festival, that experience last year made it the last. I expected the Ruston chamber of commerce or whoever organizes the festival would make certain they were only selling Ruston Peaches.

The side of the road guys just go buy off of distributors then put up the "home grown" or whatever location sign. I've had to deal with them trying to get into true farmer's markets and it is obvious they misrepresent their products.

Newsflash: half of the locally grown shite you buy at a premium at the farmers mkt from the hippy chick in the summer dress and felt brim came from Cali or Mx.

There are legit farmer’s markets that do farm visits to make sure they’re producing what they sell but there are a lot that just want the fees from the vendors. Allowing those type sellers in the markets kills the real farmer because they come in with out of season produce and the general public isn’t knowledgeable enough to know the difference.

The worst one I saw was selling blueberries and blackberries in January.

Ripoff. The peaches were unusually very small this year due to lack of rain.

If it was on Ambassador Caffery that was probably William Cook from Calhoun. He owns Indian Village Harvest Farm and sets up there on Fridays during peach season and at the Horse Farm farmers market on Saturday mornings. Just checked their FB and today was the last day of their peach season at their farm stand.

They grow several different varieties of peach trees including cling and free stone fruits to extend the season from late spring through the end of August if conditions allow. Their homemade peach and watermelon ice cream is also kinda pricy but well worth it if you ever get a chance to try it.
