So this may be the next bailout. After all I believe the purpose of government is to create a problem and then solve it. Shutting down the whole world for Covid. Supporting Ukraine.

Completely worth it.

quote:

At least 20 million households -- or about 1 in 6 American homes -- are behind on their power bills as soaring electricity prices spark what is said to be the worst-ever crisis in late utility payments, according to Bloomberg, citing data from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (Neada).

quote:

Across the country, power companies reported a surge in non-payment customers. California's PG&E Corp said there had been a 40% jump in the number of residential customers behind on payments since February 2020. New Jersey's Public Service Enterprise Group said customers at least 90 days late have risen 30% since March.

Well… maybe the grid can handle more electric cars after all.

There are hiring signs everywhere. You get shut off… sit in the freaking dark.

You knew it was coming... I'm surprised CC defaults haven't skyrocketed yet.

hmm...

While people not working for months on end probably affects this.... I think he Biden Administrations war on Fossil Fuels is more to blame.

How about they recognize that natural gas is a pretty darn good fuel... How bout they recognize that Coal may be the only affordable option some have... how about they recognize that wind and solar can be good supplemental options but not primary options.

BRING DOWN THE COST OF ENERGY and you would fix one big piece of the recession/depression.

Then cut government spending.... in fact just do away with the government.

I know. Let’s sink billions into energy ideas that cannot produce the required energy, have exorbitant maintenance issues, and will likely never be a viable solution.

Adrienne Nice woke up early on the morning of July 25 to news she’d been dreading. The power company, Xcel Energy Inc., had shut off the electricity to the small Minneapolis apartment she shares with her teenage son, just as a heat wave was bearing down on the city.

Nice had been struggling financially ever since the pandemic hit, racking up more than $3,000 in past-due utility bills. The warnings she’d gotten on her monthly statement—“FINAL NOTICE” scrawled in big, bold letters—had prepared her to some degree, but it was still jarring to find the fridge dark and the air conditioner silent. With temperatures set to reach 95F (35C) in the coming days, she needed the power back on, and fast.

Genuinely as a human, this is sad and I hate it for her. At the same time how the frick does this happen $3k in past due utility bills is something that even the poorest of the poor do not have. Something tells me she hasn't been the wisest with money. I know she's a house cleaner but geez.

I also work as an auditor in Arkansas and alot of our clients are non profit quasi government agencies that literally provide rental and utility bill assistance. Surely Minnesota has the same.

Not surprising Entergy is raping everyone in south LA after Ida. Moms house went from 80-115 a month to $240-260 just about half the bill is a fuel surcharge in addition to normal usage plus there is an added hurricane fee.

I went from 350 to 722 last in a month. So not shocked, we are doing it to ourselves.

Liberal surveys says 70% of the people want more renewables being used to generate power... yet none ask them if they are willing to pay just $20 more on their bill to pay for sun and wind farms.

These places are lenient as frick

My check was late/lost One time thanks to the lovely postal service and the electric company sent me an urgent letter that I was 1 day past due ( with no history of late payments) and they were cutting my power the next day

Had to log in and pay it over the internet . I said damn One day late and y’all threaten to cut the power ? What do people with no money do? And she didn’t answer

This is an opportunity to buy votes. Here comes a bailout.

Free college loans. Free utilities.
