Unfortunately is never has been... We have built a system that encourages a person to make stupid decisions and in turn get rewarded for doing so...

Why does the simple act of having student loan debt make one irresponsible?

I don’t know because I didn’t make that claim

It’s so fricking maddening the sense of entitlement these pricks have regarding debt they assumed under their own volition.
If you don’t pay your shite off, or if you accept some sort of loan forgiveness, your credit report should reflect that. You’ve taken on bad debt and didn’t repay it in full like you signed on the line for.

Well, that just about sums it up, don’t it?
Absolutely sums it up perfectly.
Not the first time I've heard a lefty respond that way either.

Having the debt doesn't make a person irresponsible, not paying the debt does.
Take this story as an example. The white guy has student loan debt but he is also a news anchor. This means the education he got from that debt has paid off because he is now in his chosen career path. It also means he likely makes enough money he can pay the debt he chose to take.
He chose to take the debt, he has benefited from that debt, and now he doesn't want to pay it. Not paying the debt makes him irresponsible. Happily accepting some other person's tax dollars to pay off his debt makes him a POS.

Rodney: So what happens to all those people that spent years working and paying off their student loans, like me? We get nothing? I don’t even get back the interest I paid? I just did the right thing for nothing?
Rob: You know what, you don’t have anymore loans so I don’t feel sorry for you. I do, I still have loans. So good for you for paying them off but I don’t feel sorry for you.
In my courtroom (if I were a judge), Rodney would have full justification for ripping off his bowtie and glasses and beating the shite out of Rob for tossing out that sort of leach rhetoric.
Bonus points if he started off with "looks like the forecast is calling for a spoiled brat's arse-whoopin'".

Nonsense. There are a multitude of legit, savvy finance reasons why one would chose to not quickly pay back his student loans. Doesn’t make one irresponsible. Often times, prioritizing paying back your loans as quickly as possible isn’t the smart move.

Are u sure u didn't get the names mixed up?

I would looooooove to see leech Rob’s spending habits vs Rodney’s during this time of debt repayment.
And I’m sure Rob had been on board with muh “white supremacy” rhetoric for years while he now white splains to Rodney.

Absent knowledge of this further liberal giveaway.. bullsheet.
Letting interest compound on debt you owe, when you can pay it off quicker, is fricken dumb. Each way, every way, any day.

You’re right in what you stated, but missing the point. Irresponsible is lacking responsibility, which is what Rob is doing by accepting others to unwillingly pay for his debt.
He is advocating for this, and has no empathy for the person who is speaking up about this injustice. He has assumed the victim mentality that the loans themselves have oppressed him, or are unfair, and he SHOULDNT have to pay them off, even though others remain responsible for their debts and pay them off.
Victim mentality HATES others that one-up their victim mentality.

What if I can put money towards something that has a higher ROI than the interest being accrued on my student loan principle? This isn’t credit card level interest rates my guy.
Posted on 8/24/22 at 9:37 am to LuckyTiger
Rodney might be onto something. If there is one thing that might be palatable to the public it would be to forgive the interest only. Make the people who paid their loans back get a check on their interest paid and forgive interest and deferment costs for people with outstanding loans. You pay back the money you loaned with no interest.
Then immediately end the government backing of student loans.

I mean, I agree with you about publicly advocating for it on the news. But if this policy does happen, not accepting it out of principle is kind of a dumb move.

Will you send a thank you card to someone for paying off the debt you agreed to pay and then didn’t?
Posted on 8/24/22 at 9:45 am to onmymedicalgrind
A principled man is a wise man, and one that makes decisions that are not centered solely on himself.

Because you can lose your job tomorrow and have to use all of that you invested to pay the loan anyway.
And the market, and economy, can do what it has exactly done these past two years and erase a large amount, if not all, of the gain and there you are.
Plus, more than likely, that extra money for investments is going to eventually find its way into a house, boat, or vehicle payment…. That bears more interest on debt. Probably what has happened in the Rob vs. Robert story in the OP.
