I just don’t feel the juice is worth the squeeze anymore.

I’ve mentioned the video of women fighting with a backdrop of a burnout race ON Canal at the corner of Bourbon/ Canal. It may have been Royal. I’m done. It was a Friday night about midnight if the comments were to be believed. No cops. Nothing. This wasn’t 5am off of Rampart. Told me all I needed. The city is not safe. It’s not for me anymore. A tourist.

My last trip was probably 4 years ago. Maybe 5. Then I noticed a definite lack of Police presence. I saw no crime. But I was keeping early hours as we had a then young son.

I hear ya. I avoid Canal altogether.

I guess it comes down to what you're going to NOLA for. I used to go to see how much I could drink on Bourbon St. and still stand upright.

That's not why I go there anymore. I now go to eat, drink, shop, people watch, art, music. Many of the places I used to haunt, I have no desire to go anymore. Those are probably the more sketchy areas now. So I stay away from there.

NOLA is still a great place to visit. And yes, getting older sucks.

Too many people that annoy me there. Only go there if I have to fly out of MSY.

A flight from MSY to ATL aint much different than a flight from Lagos to Nairobi.

Savannah does.

TLDR

Your post likely reads as such, Nola is a shithole, you’re going to get shot/stabbed/raped at the same time.

Saved myself some time.

I’m a conservative who lives in Old Metairie. I have no issue telling you my thoughts on the current leadership in New Orleans and all about the issues there.

But the fear mongering on this site especially about visiting the city and enjoying it are comical.

There’s multiple people in here who have said they enjoyed their last visit but won’t come back. That’s ridiculous.

No, I still go down there relatively often, but less than I used to. I also take a LOT more precautions with where I park my car.

I’ll always have to go to New Orleans but I go a lot less now

Used to own real estate there but no longer.
Used to go to dinner downtown and the quarter about twice a month on average. Maybe once every 6 Months now.

Last time I was downtown after dark it was embarrassing. Stings like weed and the tourists make budget cruise passengers look like Rothschilds.

Not last, but will be down in FQ with 4 ladies, 1- SO, 3- 40yo daughter and bff's, Friday-Monday Labor Day weekend. LSU game, Pelican Club Friday, Atchafalaya Sunday Brunch. We will also hit our regular jaunts, Drago's, Erin Rose, Coops, Lafitte's, Chart House, while people watching the freaks in town for SD. We will be safe, have fun, and return home with most of our livers.

Deciding to abstain from the New Orleans economy, for me, is not about fear. It is about not spending money among people who vote in, by intent or neglect, an administration openly hostile to western civilization.

Unless I am going for work or a family/friend wedding, I won't be going/staying in NO until there's a serious change.

Unless I have to go to one of my wife's relatives' funerals, I doubt I'll ever go to New Orleans again.
But an important note, I've lost interest in bigger cities anyway

Same. I just don't care for big cities anymore. I've seen all I want to see of them in this country.

We live an hour from Nola and it's probably been 10 years since I've been. I'm not necessarily avoiding it because of crime (we live in BR ), just haven't had a reason or desire to go.
