Spin-off of the Boston thread. Anyone ever do a New England vacation in a weeks time? Would like to visit Boston and Maine and anywhere in between.

It can certainly be done. You won’t see it all, but you can see plenty of New England in a week.
Personally I would concentrate on Vermont and Maine. You’ll be doing a decent amount of driving, but going to Burlington for a couple days and then doing kennebunkport and Portland would be a great trip.

I go at least once a year, but usually only 3-4 days. Typically from Boston to Burlington. Here is a thread I posted a few years ago about a 6 day road trip. You will spend a decent amount of time in a car if you want to visit every state in New England. But if you had 2/3 cities it wouldn't be too bad.

In October we're doing a seven day cruise, leaving from Boston, with stops in Maine and Canada.

A few summers back family went to Boston for the 4th of July, did the city for a few days.
Then rented a car drove to Hartford, went to Mark Twain's house, they drove to Rhode Island was there by lunch. Did Salem witch tour, the next day on the way to Maine. Spent two days in Maine, flew back out of Portland. All total it was a week, saw 4 states, we had already been to Vermont via Montreal.

I'm thinking of flying into Boston for a 3 night stay then driving to Maine.

Pick a hotel near a T stop cause that’s the best way to get around.
We went (drove) to Maine ~ 5 years ago and Portland is not that far but I wouldn’t go to Bar Harbor if you only have 3 days.

Yes have done both Boston and up to Maine and Boston to Cape Cod and Newport Rhode Island
Don’t get your rental until you are out of Boston
In Boston you can Uber or t to anywhere you need to go
South of Boston area you can explore the cape and highly recommend Newport Rhode Island
It will be harder to add Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard
North of Boston you can make your way up coast to places like rockport ma and Portsmouth nh and up Maine coast to Portland
It would be harder to go all the way to bar harbor and Acadia national park
I’ve never been to Vermont or New Hampshire area but those areas are nice, a lot more driving
Have mostly stayed along coast

We did a week in Maine and a separate week in Boston. I wouldn’t try to see both in a week. Too much to see and do in each to split them up.
