Changed my teens over to private school this year. They were straight A students in a rural, mediocre public school system, and never studied. Never. Should’ve been a clue, right? During these first 2 weeks, I’ve had to stay up to 11:00ish at night, re-educating myself on stuff I haven’t used in 40 years, and then trying to help them. They’ve pulled C’s on biology and language arts tests, and still I’m very proud of them, and angry at myself and the public school for letting them fall behind. I realize there are some exceptional public school systems out there, but they are few and far between, especially in the rural south. Anyways, I encourage you younger bucks who are just starting off to consider the private or homeschool options.

Fortunate to put mine through a great public school in Allen Texas many years ago. Would be hesitant if had to do it now... Good for you for being an involved parent! This country needs more like you!

Your private school started 2 weeks ago?

Curious what city you are in.

My kids are in private school in Atlanta and we start tomorrow.

Louisiana ultimately ranked 49th for quality and 40th for safety with an overall score of 34.09, ahead of only Alaska and New Mexico. The Bayou State was ranked 49th overall. School choice became one of the core issues in the Capitol during the 2022 legislative session.

School Ranking for LA

Louisiana has a long way to go to get out of the last in everything category.

Yeah I’ve heard those schools are pretty elite. I’m in a rural area, and the only option for high school used to be pretty decent, but is declining rapidly, academically.

If they are in bio, their either freshman or sophomores. All freshman have a hard time with high school. It’s no longer middle school and it hits them very hard

Put Wyoming demographics in Louisiana and watch the rankings change overnight. The 2 public high schools in my parish are head and shoulders above the small Catholic private school.

Our public school was less than 10% passing in math on the Georgia Milestones and abysmal in everything else as well. I’m pretty sure my kids are struggling mainly because the public schools suck, but the new curriculum probably does play some part.

My wife does development/fundraising and left her job for the same position at a private school. She makes less, but has a great schedule and gets half price tuition for our boys. We have a great public school where we live, but the more I read about the public school system every day I’m so glad our little boys are going to school where they are.

It is difficult to catch up but is well worth the time invested. Your kids will be better prepared for college as a result of the work they are doing now.

I would rather my kids be C students in a socially/environmentally sound private school than the smartest kid in a public school. So congrats. They’ll get better.

Unfortunately, Texas does not work the same as Louisiana/Mississippi where private schools are predominantly for class segregation. That is the largest benefit, imo. The kids I was around at private schools are much more put together than the kids I was around in public schools.

Exceptional public schools are in wealthy white communities that control their own school boards. The stars or federal government have nothing to do with it. Democratic controlled cities run mostly by black politicians are a complete failure at everything they do and that’s the actual truth. Black democrats are the biggest threat to the success of black peoples!

Rural schools in the south lack funding because so much money is poured into the “urban” schools. And those rural schools still outperform the urban schools, albeit with less resources.

You can't get out the hole if you keep digging. With Louisiana politicians Louisiana will never get better.

There's really nothing to do except keep spending money on them. Each one that can get through high school and onto college is hopefully one less that will live a life in poverty.

I went to private school my whole life. Was a “b c”student at best. I was leaps and bounds ahead of most kids when I got to college. Just my story. I always tell people school is what you make it. You can come from bonnabel and end up being a Rhodes scholar. All about the work you put In
