Opinion: The qb spot was always Jaden Daniels job to lose

Most players enter the transfer portal due to lack of playing time. Jaden Daniels was very much the exception to that rule, leaving a school where he was a three year starter to enroll in a school with a crowded qb group where supposedly there was an open battle to start. That’s rare.
While I do not know that Daniels was flat out promised the job, one has to believe that in order to entice him to transfer, somewhere along the way Daniels got the wink/nod that he would eventually be the starter at LSU.
Now that might not mean that Daniels could stink it up in practice and be the starter. But it might well be the case that despite statements to the media that the qb job was a wide open race, the job was always Daniels to lose.
This is not based on any inside info, more on common sense. Playing time is the holy grail for a college qb. Would Daniels have left a sure starting position without some expectation he would start. I doubt it.
On the other hand,, if it is the case that Daniels got zero assurance he would probably be the starter, then Daniels must be a supremely confident young man to risk a transfer to a school with the talent in the LSU qb room to enter into a true competition to start.
One thing I think is reasonably certain, Daniels didn’t transfer in to be a back up. Whether the job was promised to him or not, he thought we was transferring in to start. No three year starter picks a transfer school where I’ve doubts he will start.

Yes, we definitely needed another thread on this.

The coaches probably told him they liked his skill set and past play, the QB race is wide open, and we think you’d have a good shot to start here. Also look at all the weapons at your disposal you don’t have at AZ state

This. Plus Daniels had enough confidence in himself to win the job when given a fair shot at it.

From what I understand, Daniels reached out to LSU not the other way around. He has the skill set BK wants. So does Nuss and Howard. Dual threats. I don't think Daniels was promised anything but a chance. Same with Nuss. It's open competition.

Myles hasn't been truly invested in being the QB here for over two n half years now. This is only a shock to fans and people outside of the program. Im sure this factored into Daniels decision to come here.

He was brought in for a reason . Dennbrock loved what he has with Ridder. He sees that in Daniels.

So if Myles didnt invest his time into being the QB, does he really bleed purple and gold?

Wtf
LSUs QB position was WIDE open.
I’m not sure why you felt the need to misrepresent that.

Although he was a 3 year starter,…….he was in a really shitty situation at ASU riding in Herm Edwards sinking ship.
Maybe he was just betting on himself.
If the stars align(decent o-line, excellent wide receivers, good run game), he can make himself a national name and show some NFL scouts what he can do with a good a supporting cast against some great SEC defenses.
I don’t think it was “his job to lose”. I think he just wanted a fresh start and a prime opportunity.

this team needed the best passer of the football as qb. especially with these talented receivers. i hope that qb is still on the team

Logical. BK let Daniels know before he came he had a pretty good shot at starting. Now we are starting to see what BK thought about Brennan and the inexperienced QBS

Is there an echo in here? I've posted similar to this close to a dozen times, and been disagreed with. It's really impressive how many people on the rant can't put 2 and 2 together. Glad to find a fellow poster that understands logic.
THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL Daniels would have come here if he wasn't CONFIDENT (and been told in so many words by the staff) he would beat out who we have. It's astounding the pushback you get when you tell people on here the earth is round. Daniels always had the inside track to the job, or he would have NEVER come here.

Anyone not emotionally invested can see that signing Daniels was a huge vote of no confidence in Brennan. But I doubt if the staff made outright promises so much as invited him to come and compete with a freshman, a redshirt freshman, and a career backup.

People gonna downvote just because they hate their life. What you said is logical and does make sense.
