I have a wedding to attend next year in New Orleans. Il Mercato? I have done the french quarter before and not really interested in re-living my college days. Any advice on what to do and where to eat outside of the FQ? Most likely would be fishing or golfing one morning if possible so any recs for that would be great too.

Thanks

Good luck surviving. Get out as fast as you can. I like the Irish Channel area. Several good breweries and short walk to Magazine for plenty of good restaurants.

Il Mercato?

Expensive spot. Your people must have a few bucks

That's heading towards uptown/irish channel/garden district so if you want to stay in that area its nice. Lots of restaurants nearby, definitely more local.

The city may not even be there by that time. Hurricanes, rioting, rain, I wouldn't worry about it yet

Il Mercato itself will have great food as all served there is from Joel Catering, the founder of La Petite Grocery and Sucre.

After the first of the year, post on the food board about restaurants.
No matter what you do, ignore the dumbass Mingo.

If you are stuck on golfing, go to the TPC course in Avondale.
Since you can golf at good courses all over, I would suggest fishing. For the closest place, look up charters out of Lafitte.

The Fulton Alley area has some good restaurants and bars. Harrahs is close by so you can park and walk. It is a safer area than the FQ.

The restaurants in Fulton Alley are all a little touristy and nothing great.

If you want food suggestions near Il Mercato/Uptown, try Turkey and the Wolf, Molly's Rise and Shine, or Stein's for casual lunch.

For a solid New Orleans meal and cultural experience, I definitely recommend Jacques Imo's. After that, walk to Oak and Ale for a drink. Another solid New Orleans locals spot is Le Bon Temps Roule on Magazine. Also, check to see if Tipitina's has a show one of the nights you are in.

St. Vincent guesthouse is 0.2 miles away from the Il Mercato and is a great hotel. That is a fun area of town to explore on foot. The columns hotel has also been redone and would presumably be a great place to stay although I have not seen the rooms post renovation.
