many more people are really high on Nuss than I would have expected at the end of last season.

My question is simply: why? What have people seen to think he’s the guy moving forward?

It's pretty basic, actually. If you watch him purely from a "tools" standpoint (arm, accuracy, touch, mobility), he's a + in all those categories. If you watched the spring game, you got a glimpse of what that skill set can look like when it's put together. And if you're a believer in Kelly's offensive mind and ability to prepare those players and put them in a position to succeed, then it's not much of a leap to see a player like Nussmeier who already has the requisite tools benefiting from a coach like Kelly.

See, pretty basic.

Well ... people have to pick somebody to rally behind. So, it's either :

Transfer that isn't really a passer.
A guy that doesn't seem to be interested in the job.
A true Fr
Or, a guy that has been working hard with the WRs and showed some potential last year as a true Fr.

Most people recognize the best option even if he's not Tom Brady.

Which is what? Kelly has not stated at all that there is a front runner for the QB position. Denbrock recently came out and said he would like to have a starter named, but they are nowhere close to that. So where is, "it's what the coaches are seeing" equal Nuss?

quote:

the staff & WRs been vouching for him all summer.

So the QB they have been around the most, and are maybe closest friends with vouche for him. We have certainly never seen this before.

Had by far the best spring game

There are countless examples of players standing out in the spring game and never being heard from once the season starts.

People praising Brennan are stat gazing

So, we are discrediting actual stats in SEC games, and building up a spring game and comments from his friends? You don't see any problems with what you are doing here?

I'm not even pro Brennan, Daniels or Nuss. I just believe that what we see is such a small clip of what is actually going on that there is no way for us to know who the best option is. I'll trust the coaches to make the best decision.

Because he has the best looking ball out of the entire group, the receivers love him and he has 4 years to play.
If we are gonna have low expectations this season we should get the growing pains out of the way with him. He will only get better from here.

I believe he has the highest ceiling of the 3 …and in a year nobody expects us to do anything…why not let him gain experience

Nuss is doing what we expect every recruit to do …sit the bench for a year …and be ready to play the next year

Yes, discrediting actual SEC stats because the reality of those games is that he did not play very well outside of Mizzou. The same way Max Johnson looked like shite last year in the first 6 games of the season despite averaging 300 yards per game with one of the best TD/Int ratio’s in college football. Stats are misleading, yet it’s the only thing the Myles Brennan cult has to lean on.

I also do not care who starts as long as we have quality play from the position. People keep pointing to what I’m saying being biased, yet my OP was in response to “can’t wait to see how the Nuss fans spin this”. Kind of sounds like you clearly have a bias yourself.

Erase everything that you saw last year from your memory. Then go watch him in the spring game.

His physical talents are apparent. He is athletic in the pocket, moving around when he feels pressure, and ability to throw off platform. He throws with great touch, both long & short. His arm strength allows him to make any throw on the field. Being a coaches son, his mechanics & footwork are above where most sophomores are.

Mentally, hard to tell where he is just because we don’t get to be there everyday. But again, coaches kid. His teammates love him. He seems like a great leader in interviews, mature beyond his years. I would say he has a very high makeup.

Like I said In another thread, there are things to like from a pure potential standpoint.

Good arm. Mobile. You look at his TD vs Arkansas and he looks like the next Joe Burrow.

But you can also look at some of the bad sacks where he scrambled and didn’t get away. He’s had some picks too.

I think it’s annoying how much hype he got before the Arkansas game and then post Arkansas game it just never got adjusted but it’s not like he doesn’t have tool and doesn’t have potential. My issue is really more with the fanboys pretending everyone else is dumb for not agreeing with them. I also don’t care about spring games.

He just needs to make a jump to where he’s doing much more of the spectacular and less of the bad.

It has a lot to do with the competition.

Brennan may go out and win games. He is capable but he has little to no mobility and he seems to be a slow processor of information. Great arm solid leader but not a guy you will win championships with.

Daniels, had a poor showing in the spring and everybody who wasn’t on the Brennan bandwagon after seeing The spring game jumped on the Nuss bus. I think Daniels will likely be the guy but that may be just to prove that he can’t do it consistently before handing over the reins a couple games into the season to NUSS.

Brennan leaving doesn’t hurt the QB room.

A year with Brennan starting is a year of unalignment

Personally, I think the potential of a very high ceiling is there with Nussmeier. It’s hard for me to look at last season and come away with any strong conclusion on him just because I don’t think he had anywhere near adequate coaching going on, be it from developing our QBs or game planning/calling plays in-game.

I agree. I really like Nuss, and I hope he wins the job. That being said:

This is my issue. He’s not the only answer. To pretend like Brennan and Daniels don’t have talent to their name is dishonest, and I feel like certain people don’t want a dialogue that involves the other two QBs. I want whoever wins the job to get it. If that’s Nuss, cool. If it’s Brennan or Daniels, cool. I’m not losing sleep over it because I don’t have an ounce of skin in the game.

I was at the Arkansas game and didn’t think much of Nuss. Then I saw the spring game and he looked the best of the 3.
