So, I haven’t been following LSU too closely the last few months for various reasons, but it seems many more people are really high on Nuss than I would have expected at the end of last season.

My question is simply: why? What have people seen to think he’s the guy moving forward?

I’m not saying I disagree-I don’t really have an opinion. I’m just trying to figure out what has caused all the love, seemingly out of nowhere.

It's going to be really fun to see people attempt to answer this one.

He looked the best in the spring game, and the receivers have talked him up the most.

However neither of those two things mean much as to how he’ll perform in games.

Because a receiver said something in an interview or something like that.

I have hope that he will be really good, but anyone on here who acts like they know how good he is is lying to themselves. We've barely seen him play.

Oh and something about an "it" factor.

I remember a lot of people saying "no chest" b/c he refused to play in the bowl game. Funny how things change so quickly. I'm with the OP on this one...don't really have an opinion but it's definitely interesting to see the sudden change.

If you come to LSU as a highly recruited QB you are expected to win the Heisman. Nuss was the highest ranked QB based on talent in 15 years probably. So people expected him to come in a hit 40 yard fade routes each play.

I don't know who will win the qb job but imo nuss has evwry tool you would want in a high level qb.

Effortless arm strength, can move in the pocket, great feet, and a will to win.

It’s pretty hilarious to see people try to act like there is no reason to be high on Nuss. I’m willing to bet the same people think Brennan would throw for 4K yards because 2 years ago he lit up Vandy and Mizzou at a time where our offense was allergic to running the ball.

ETA in all honesty, if he did get the nod over Brennan, it would have to be because he has a better grasp of the playbook and he's more mobile.

And yet you named none of them. That was the whole purpose of the OP.

And then to make matters worse, you go ahead and name actual reasons why people could be hopeful about Brennan.

Really good spring game/spring overall. Players, especially the best receivers, are high on him. Throws the prettiest ball, passes the eye test.

People discredit the spring game, but it’s more reliable than his in game action last year imo given he was a true freshman with an incompetent head coach and OC, bad oline, no Boutte, debuting against an SEC defense, etc. I think he’ll be solid if he beats out Brennan and Daniels for the job.

1. Its not what we've seen. Its what the coaches see behind the scenes and at practice.

2. The offseason is for getting better and maturing as a player, right? ...the staff & WRs been vouching for him all summer. So maybe...just maybe, he's not the same QB he was as a true freshman in limited action with an awful/first year offensive coordinator. Its only one way to find out and thats on the playing field.

Have you ever watched college football? Everyone loves the backup QB.

I think if he gets the job it will be because he has a little more mobility, is more liked in the locker room and has a more resilient/optimistic disposition. I personally worry that he will try to do too much and throw the ball up for grabs in critical moments.

I think people are just assuming or hoping for some natural progression. Yeah he didn't look all that good last year but he was a true freshman that showed some tools to work with. Rarely are true freshman a finished product.

This about sums it up. I would add that the guys who run the pay sites that hear things from inside the program have also been high on him since the spring game. Even prior to the spring game, guys like Brody Miller of the Athletic were hearing that he had really had a big jump this past spring.

Obviously these are two different players but I remember the optimism and same things being said about Max last summer. "True freshman last year that made some mistakes but showed great promise, reported to have made great improvements in the off season, has that "it" factor, etc."

We all saw how that turned out.

It's the same exact thing happening this summer except with Nuss. Maybe things will be different this time.

Eta: Personally I really hope they are. I think both Brennan and Daniels are very capable QBs, so if Nuss beats them out then I think LSU will be in a solid position at QB.

Rumor is that Brennan is falling behind in this QB competition. It’s turning into a two-man race between Nuss and Daniels.

I.e. he’s more talented and has a better grasp of the game.

Had by far the best spring game, actual players vouching for him, clear disparity in arm talent with strength and ability to throw on the move.

People praising Brennan are stat gazing and forget that he spent the entire Ms state and vandy game throwing behind receivers and seeing ghost in the pocket.
