Do they belong in a different category? Am I being overly sensitive about the topic?

Meet a buddy for a beer and we spend the entire time talking about his work and other non-weagle topics. Even though I am doing some cool stuff.

That’s an acquaintance, not a friend.

Met a guy for beers that I worked with about a decade ago and it was the same way.

Spent the entire time talking about his life and was never really asked anything about mine.

We were damn good friends when we lived in the same city back then and hung out a lot.

One of my good buddies and I would drive for an hour sometimes without saying a word. Not every thought has to be verbalized.

If it’s not typical of him, I wouldn’t think too much about it. If he’s working from home, etc. he may just be overly enthusiastic.

You'll learn that no one gives a shite about your personal life.

The older you get the smaller your circle gets and only the people that really care about you ask about what's going on......the other "friends" are just there to drink beer and act like they care

Guys don't typically do that unless there is obvious distress. That's standard operating procedure and usually understood.

There’s a fine line between asking you questions about your life and sticking your nose in my business.

If you desire a friendship where someone takes interest in your life, you aren't being overly sensitive. Especially if he talks about his life.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend.

If we're being honest, we all just suffer our friends' unimportant shite so we can hurry up and share our own.

Its one thing if your friend only talks about his life and doesnt ask about yours.

It’s another thing if your friend prefers talking about sports, music, etc for most of the conversation. I personally get bored/annoyed by friends who want to vent to me about all the shite in their life every time im around. We can briefly shade over the topics of course, but lets not spend an hour of our free time and your revolving door of chaos.
