Does anyone know if the Team USA season is over yet? I saw they lost to Japan the other night and wanted the action to pick up with Luke Holman.

Do we know what Johnson number is thought to be? Did I see 1.25 million?

Holman carved Japan up today. I believe they play Japan another game or 2 before it's over.

There are maybe 1-2 posters here I’d allow to man-splain me regarding the draft and just reading what you are writing, it wouldn’t be you.

quote:

Teams deploy the strategy over underslot deals early to go overslot later, all the time.

Certainly true.

But has zero context

How many teams are doing this from here on out? And how much are they doing it for? Have you cared to research this?

quote:

We lost Carter Young last year near the end of the draft, because he got well over a million.

Again, this certainly happened.

Do you care for any context,?

He was one of 4 players in rounds 10-20 to get over $1.0 mil

And one of only 5 players to get a bonus over $400k in rounds 10-20.

quote:

Just because a team didn't want to draft Johnson yet, doesn't mean they don't really want him.

I’m sure plenty of teams want him, he just hasn’t been a priority yet to any team due to his price.

When the dust settles and a team has some leftover money, it could happen. It’s fluid.

After about halfway through the next round, it's more likely that he would need to be drafted in the 11-20 rounds to get his number.

Is this because teams get penalized if they can't sign a Rd 1-10 pick? So they are less willing to take a flyer on a guy that might ultimately turn down the signing bonus in those rounds?

In 11-20, they get a $125k head start on the bonus. They'll take senior signs for 5k a pop until then to bank pool money if they have to.

Gotcha. Do teams still get penalized if they can't sign a guy? I guess by penalized I mean they lose whatever that slot value is from the pool?

You're just saying that because he can't hit a fastball.

I think it’s far more likely that you just see Cam Johnson remove his name at some point rather than just continue to fall.

Have you cared to do so? I'm only telling you of what is possible, and it only takes one team.

quote:

I’m sure plenty of teams want him, he just hasn’t been a priority yet to any team due to his price.

When the dust settles and a team has some leftover money, it could happen. It’s fluid.

And this was my entire point. So you told me I don't know what I'm talking about, and then made my point for me. You ALWAYS have leverage, because of the threat to go to school. And, again, it only takes one team.

Speaking of context, would you care to research why only a few players signed for over a million after round 10 last year? It's because players priced themselves out, not because they had no leverage. A player and his advisor both know that the can bring the price down, but if the priority to go to school is set high enough, they will force teams to meet their demands. And a team, if they want to pay that much, can certainly do it.

That was what I wanted to get across. I think he clearly would have been taken by now, if his price were lower. But since it isn't, we'll now be waiting to see what happens in the later rounds, when teams with extra money come looking for a high end prospect to spend on.

Do we believe Johnsons fall is the injury?

and the unwillingness to give that money is probably tied to the injury and not being able to see him as much due to it, is it not?
