This. They abandoned time honored tracks and traditions in a rush to build the same Circle D tracks all over the country. They dropped one of the top 3 races in the circuit with Southern 500 on Labor Day. At least they wizened up over that one.

North Wilkesboro

Has been reopened and revamped(track is still the same length) and will host a race this fall and then will host dirt races next year.

They are at least getting better at that. I was shocked when ol' boy blew a tire with 3 or 4 laps left on Sunday and they just let 'em ride. It was the perfect chance to put old Bubba back on the leader's tail and they said naw

They knew Harvick was hungry and figured it was better to have Bubba finish 2nd than 32nd after Harvick put him in the fence

The snap reaction to Kenseth winning a title in 03 without winning was overboard. They could have came out and said his title season was a miracle year and moved on.

Instead they installed a playoff that cost their most nationally known driver (Gordon) at least 3 titles with a BS system.

I dont think I've watched a full race since Gordon retired.

Kenseth did win one race in 2003.

Kasey Kahne won 6 races in 2006 and didn’t win the cup championship

The problem with these tracks were there was no infrastructure as the series grew to support larger crowds and the communities weren't able to support the races. The tracks produced some great finishes over the years and are in the heart of NASCAR, but just didn't have the resources to provide the Cup series once it went national, and almost had a too good for that in regards to the Truck and Busch races when they were brought in to try and make sure series were still racing there.

This is absolutely an issue. It is also an issue that SMI and NASCAR are aware of, and I would expect both to find a way to rectify these issues moving forward.

Seems to me that the fans supported specific drivers more than they supported the sport. When those drivers retired, so did the “fans”.

I couldn't tell you how it works.

Used to watch races with my Paw Paw in the mid-2000s but probably haven't watched one since he died. He had a 3 decal on the back of his vehicle.

Yeah this is a copout on their part. It's not that hard to find a new favorite driver once your driver has retired or God forbid, died on the track. I've done it twice, when Senior died, Junior and Tony Stewart were my favorite drivers. When they retired, I became a Chase Elliott fan.

Darlington holds 50k, they couldn't halfway fill the stands, and they are back to not filling the stands

If you all are bored with the Nascar and the playoffs now, you millennials would never survive the old championship system

Noosecar would be better if a race lasted like 25 laps.

As someone who doesn’t follow NASCAR at all, can you explain why? Why did they go to a playoff system? What changed from how it was before

NASCAR is battling UFC for the trashiest sport so who cares.

What NASCAR race are they hosting this year? I looked at the top 3 series and don't see a race scheduled there.
