Are the Nascar playoffs the worst championship system in all of sports?

I think they might be, you can trace the downfall of NASCAR to the introduction of the chase in 2004. It’s literally all been downhill since then.

I could name 30 drivers in 2003. Now, I can't name 10.

I find that intriguing.

I’m not a nascar fan and never have been.

I disliked it as a 15 year old with the same energy I do now, at 32.

It’s slightly neat but can’t hold my attention for more than 3 minutes.

But goddamn did I know all the drivers 15 years ago and keep up with what they were doing. I’ve always wondered why MLB didn’t bring in whatever folks were responsible for that and implement it themselves.

Gordon would have at least 2 more titles if it weren't for the shitty playoff

I’d struggle to name 5 now and would struggle to name 30 all time.

Austin Dillion
Kurt Busch
Kyle Busch
Denny Hamlin
Martin Truex Jr

Ross Chastain vs Tyler Reddick for a spot in the Final Four is going to be amazing this year.

I'm a casual fan who grew up going to races at Talledega and still enjoy watching races on TV but I don't find the playoff interesting at all. And stages really seem unnecessary.

This here. I got into Formula 1 last year. That got me interested in IndyCar, which is pretty compelling comparatively. Those two got me in interested in Nascar, and holy shite, it sucks.

Yes. It is a shame what is happen to NASCAR. Down to one race in Michigan when they used to have two races that were packed with fans and national attention.

They should have races in Watkins Glen and the Poconos of course but they can't forget their base in the South and in Michigan.

Playoff system

Constant Fkn with the type of car

And I think most important part of the downfall, every owner went and signed 16-18 year olds Bc they thought those kids would be the next big thing. They have no following.

Same here

The funny thing growing up in the 90s, NASCAR was the most popular racing circuit out there, so you just kinda think that is what all racing is like. It was boring with most trackc just being the oval tracks, 4 left turns, blah blah blah. But it made me not like any form of racing.

Just recently I've gotten into F1, and that is legit fun, and I'm sure there are many other leagues that are fun. Nascar just isn't it for me.

In 2003, I was still going to races with my brother and had all the teams radio frequencies laminated to my scanner, and could name 30 or more drivers like you.

I couldn't name 5 today, and I'd be guessing if some were active. Chase Elliott is about it, but I live near Dawsonville...

It didn't help. I think NASCAR went downhill when they abandoned their core audience by trying to chase a national audience that was never going to come. They weren't satisfied being a niche sport that does well their their base.

It ruined the sport for me. I still try to watch some but it just doesn't resonate with me the same anymore. I'm not a big playoff guy in general but that one is the absolute worst.

Winning is literally all that matters now so dudes are wrecking each other like weekend warriors at your local dirt track. But that's what NASCAR thinks sells. Checkers or wreckers and drama/fights.

Truex is like 3rd or 4th in the points and probably isn't going to make a 16 deep playoff lol. There's no reward for consistent performance. I watch F1 instead because there is actual strategy throughout the field (well, except Ferrari) and value to P1-P10. When the points matter you get more "real" racing imo.

Yeah. They built all these 1.5 mile cookie cutter tracks all over the US. Nobody wanted to watch the same thing every week. Not sure why they didn't build more unique tracks. North Wilkesboro and Rockingham were cool tracks they just deserted.

Kevin (Brian?) France is an idiot. The third generation almost always fricks up the family business.

They are at least getting better at that. I was shocked when ol' boy blew a tire with 3 or 4 laps left on Sunday and they just let 'em ride. It was the perfect chance to put old Bubba back on the leader's tail and they said naw.
