Jason Heyward's 8 year career with the Cubs officially done

He's out with a knee injury and is not expected to play again this season, the last on his 8 year, $184 million dollar contract. In the post game they were just talking about him and his accomplishments. 
I feel like we could've found someone to give a motivating speech during the game 7 rain delay and accidentally hit the ball out of the park once in a while for a lot less than $184,000,000.
2 of the 4 are team accomplishments and the personal stats are 8 HRs and 36 RBIs per year.

It continuously boggled my mind how a 6'5" 215 lb guy with his supposed talent could not hit the ball for an ounce of power to save his life.

That OPS is better than exactly 3 starters for the Cubs right now, and the Cubs are one of the worst teams in baseball.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was all coordinated, with him being on board with it. I would bet he's not even injured, or at least not injured enough to not be able to play.

Who the hell thought Jason Heyward was worth $184 million to begin with? I mocked this stupid contract from the get go. He was never a particularly electric player. It made no sense.

I remember losing my shite when he took Zambrano deep in his first MLB at bat. One of my favorite moments as a Braves fan.
Happy that he got paid, but sucks that he never lived up to his best player in baseball potential. By all accounts, he is a really good dude.

Yes, he was! The Cardinals wanted him back, but the Cubs made a big offer.

Love the guys but damn he just never got it going at the plate. I think he was stubborn about changing his swing, never really did. The grounders to second over and over were maddening.
And the last couple of years his saving grace, his defense has declined as well. Once an elite right fielder he's just not anymore.

people on this board were mad the braves signed Freddie and not Jason.

But then there were stretches where he looked like he had never hit a baseball in his life. I'm talking the weakest contact known to man, and swinging at pitches in the dirt.
He was always a team player, and had a great attitude when others may not have had one. Also he was an older voice in the room for some of the younger guys on the squad.

He's under contract with the Cubs through the 2023 season. Apparently they've announced he won't be on the roster, whether that means there's a buyout clause that they will exercise during the off-season or that they will simply eat the last year, either way he won't be on the Cubs roster.
ETA: They will release him after the season. If nobody claims him off waivers (unlikely) the Cubs will be on the hook for his 2023 salary, less any pro-rated minimum in the event a team decides to sign him once he clears waivers.
