"How Griner's case highlights the WNBA's pay equity issue"

Katie Lou Samuelson had the perfect shoes to mark the anniversary of Title IX. Before the Sparks’ home game against the Chicago Sky on June 23, Samuelson unwrapped white tissue paper in a black shoe box to reveal her custom-decorated pair of Puma sneakers.
“Pay women athletes,” Samuelson’s shoes proclaimed in a bold white font across a black background.
The sneakers included a mark for the anniversary of Title IX on the back of the left shoe and Brittney Griner’s initials and jersey No. 42 on the right.
The Phoenix Mercury center’s detainment and conviction in Russia for cannabis possession has become a symbol of the pay-equity issue plaguing the WNBA, where even stars like Griner — a WNBA champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time All-Star — travel overseas during their WNBA offseason for salaries worth more than four or five times what they earn at home.
LA Times
Griner made $220K fr 36 games last season FYI
Bill Burr had a great bit on this
"Women failed the WNBA"

Agree. Lebron and the rest need to cut their salaries in half in the name of equity

Women overvalue themselves
Shocking
That's not just a WNBA issue either. It is become a pandemic in the world of social media and app-based dating.

There are people actually advocating for exactly this

Lebron and his NBA brethren seem to be big on pushing the liberal issues. They should be asked if they will put their money where their mouths are by splitting salaries with their female counterparts.

Are there really people out there that feel bad for women professional basketball players?

Seeing as the WNBA loses money every year and is propped up by the NBA, one could make the case that they deserve no money
Posted on 8/7/22 at 8:39 am to stout
If their league made the money the NBA does then they would be paid more.
Their league makes less and they get paid less.

I’m all about them getting higher salaries only if it comes from LeBron and these others that are getting paid over $20 million per year. Otherwise, WNBA needs to fold.

lol. We nearing peak wokeness. I reckon that all this shite about to die off abruptly in the next few years.

Just watch the Red Rocks Bill Burr special. He explains it all about the WNBA. Blames it all on women for not supporting women.

The WNBA is the absolute worst example to use as a case for gender pay equity that I can think of anywhere.
And the reasons are obvious, plentiful and varied.

I should be able to make six figures with an OnlyFans site, but I can't.

These women are going to push this to where, inevitably, some grandstanding progressive congressman will start pushing legislation “to level the playing fields”. The NBA players will then wake up and pull the plug on the WNBA and end this foolishness.

Well as a fake issue, it doesn't have any good examples.

Cameras stay low at WNBA games as to not show all the empty seats. The players want better pay for a product that most people won't support and aren't interested in. Good luck with that.
