Honestly, that's exactly what started it. I was not very good about giving her my receipts, so she told me to give this a try. It worked.

Joint accounts here. Couldn’t imagine trying to manage it any other way.

We have only one account.

Actually it’s easier to manage. There is no question about who made a particular purchase.
But anyway, i am pretty sure that most people use cards these days and relatively fewer checking accounts at all

In your world, both owe $1,000?
Yes, in my non socialist world, both owe $1000.
If the husband doesn't like that, he should buy a house he can afford.
ETA: I am also of the mind that all income in a marriage belongs to both couples, so there's that. Regardless if it sits in separate accounts.

It's pretty easy if you have a good relationship with open communication.
He knows what I make, I know what he makes. We divided up bills based on what we make (he makes more than me, so he takes on a heavier weight of the bills).
We both have our own spending money but a lot of the time we'll buy things for each other. He doesn't micromanage when I want to buy a new dress or shoes and I don't micromanage when he wants to buy a new amp or some shite for his computer.
I feel like some of y'all just have some shitty communication in your marriages.

We have a joint checking account. She has a separate checking account. I have a separate checking account. I have a separate trust checking account. We have a jointly managed trust checking account for all the kids. Each kid has a separate checking account. We have joint and separate investment accounts.
So I guess the shorter and more correct answer is “yes” and “no.”

My late wife and I had a joint account for twenty five years and never had separate accounts.
My current wife and I have both. We had our own money and accounts prior to our marriage. While we have a joint account for common expenses, etc... our main accounts are separate.

I have a savings and checking account with my main bank that my credit cards are with. I have a high yield savings account and a savings account with another bank that I have a banker with.
I ain't moving all that shite around when I get married. I have nothing to hide, it'd just be a huge pain in the arse

Separate and joint accounts. 90% of our paychecks go into the joint which pays all bills. 10% goes into our separate accounts

If you believe this, then both would not owe the same amount. It would be weighted, based on income. It's a marriage, not a socialist utopia. Different set of rules entirely.

Not sure what the norm is. But one thing I’m certain, there is only one right way to do it. No reason for any couple to come up with an alternative that might be good for their unique situation.

I make 3.5x her so i pay most everything regardless of how its done. Lol

Right, because it's the marriages money, jointly.

We have joint last 14 years…why would you have separate? Just curious…you share everything. You know what the other makes when doing tax returns….
Posted on 8/6/22 at 11:41 am to Mingo Was His NameO
Also what happens when you are one of the more likely than not couples that end up in divorce.
If you only have a joint account you are in big trouble for a while. Anyone can just clear that bitch out.

Or it could be that the husband and/or wife divorced previously and got burned by a joint account.

I have no idea what's the norm. But my wife and I have have a joint account, as well as our own separate accounts. We use the joint to pay bills.
Our separate accounts aren't all that separate, as we still know each other's logins as well.
