It's been posted here already and I am freaked out. But there's nothing we can do about it.

The IRS will be coming for everyone.

The shittiest part is...it's their discretion. Who has oversite over the IRS and where can you take them to court and be treated fairly?

We got a letter from them today saying that we owe an additional $8,080 from 2020… That would be surprising to me. But who in the hell knows. Turbo Tax might have some explaining to do.

Yeah, we got a letter too saying we owed more by a few grand. Best part, no payment plan option and virtually no explanation. Just they calculated it was different. Hell, we just used their numbers and their software. Best part, it includes a penalty and interest already.

Folks, Trump had the right improvement program for the IRS. Simplify the return to what could fit on a post card. Eliminate All special deductions and check off how large the family, how much earned / reported. Do the same for small business.

With that approach, and computerized returns , you could then lay off half the Irs workforce.

Corporate returns could use the same clean-up

Accountants who go to work for the IRS are the worst accountants on the planet. I feel like working for the IRS is conduct detrimental to the CPA profession. People who do that should lose their licenses.

The dregs of accounting graduating classes. Once they do that those that can afford a decent cpa firm will be paying that firm instead of the IRS to fix issues these dregs create by their lack of understanding of tax law. Those that don’t aka poorer people will get the govt jackboot to the neck.

Their better counterparts end up at various firms and have to send letters often explaining simple positions.

Rather, these are the agents that will target small businesses and working Americans. These audits are time consuming and often don’t bear fruit. Audits rarely cost the subject less than $10,000, a nearly insurmountable expense for most middle-class Americans and small business owners, whose audit rate will increase by 50%.

Just another attack on small businesses. Trying to kill the ones that survived the pandemic.

Been told on here that stuff like this doesn’t happen in countries where citizens have guns? What gives? Sure doesn’t seem like the federal government is scared or worried about citizens having guns to combat their corrupt and tyrannical policies?

The 87k agents is obviously a projection / long-term goal. If you read the original source doc from treasury.gov the model shows IRS at an FTE count of 87k by 2031.

IRS FTE count today is around 5k

So this can be stopped

No doubt that sounded much better in your head than it came off as a post.

tyrannical policies
I know it sounds crazy, but at some point you may garner the financial resources to be a target of those policies. If so, then Niemoller's poetic observations will become a bit more real for you.
