Has anyone ever had an infestation of Rasberry/Tawny Crazy Ants? What did you do beat them back successfully? I have been fighting them for 3 months now with monthly treatments and am nearing the $600 mark with treatments. I hired a local pest guy and also spoke to Orkin. Orkin was going to spray the same stuff as the local guy, cant remember the name.

They disappear after treatment but show back up heavy within a month.

Will the gel work for the perimeter of my home?

Get some Taurus SC or Termidor and spray the perimeter of your home. 3 feet up and 3 feet out. It has Fipronil which works great for many types of ants.

Crazy ants need more frequent than monthly treatment. They are, well, crazy. Weekly sprays with gel baits should get it done in a few weeks though. Always a risk they come back if your neighbors don't do the same though.

and don't smash any you see. That just makes them worse.

Baits don’t work very well. Fipronil is the best answer for crazy ants. They are actually very easy to kill. The problem is there can be as many as 3 billion ants to a single colony. Top choice granules in the lawn and termidor on the foundation and entry points.

Thanks everyone, Fipronil is what is being used currently, I may go ahead and just start the cycles more frequently myself and get rid of the bug man.

They nest under potted plants, pavers, bricks, etc. Flip those up and make sure you get under those. Taurus SC is the best thing for it. The have a crazy ant supplemental label for Taurus. Look it up and follow the label. Best times to spray is early spring and the 6 months later (august). They are the most active around august. Good luck.

Can someone post pics of them at their location? Just to see real world view of them. Thanks!

I'll try to get pics next time they show, hopefully will be no next time. They are smaller than the normal fire ant and are darker. When a pile of them dies, they look to have a red shade but nothing like a fire ant. They move erratically and fast as they cover the concrete.

Bumping this to see if you ever made progress. These little bastards are now in central TX. They are absolutely everywhere outside...pavers, concrete river rocks, grass...and finding ways inside.

Finding their entry points into the house is easy enough to deal with but taking back the outside seems insurmountable. Can't even chill by the pool because they swarm when we go out there. They're even in the pool.

Thanks

I don't think anyone ever gets rid of them completely, just keeping them at bay is best one can hope for.

The bright side is eventually you get used to them crawling on you anytime you're outside.

I used Bifen liquid, and it worked wonders around my house on all insects. They also have a granular that works as well.
