I knew he was part of either 91 or 93 title.

Recent history bias ?

Louis Coleman in the closer role was as good of a relief pitcher as any LSU has ever trotted out there. dominant.

Less recent history bias and more my main memories of him were as a starter in 2009.

The whole point of this thread is so I could nostalgically remember some guys I forgot and learn about guys I didn't know about.

Can take question in different directions - most skilled? Best career? Most unhittable at their peak?

Trey Hodges was the CWS MVP as a middle reliever so gotta have him on any list.

Not saying Zach Hess was an all-time great but was excellent when he was on. one time he came in to close a game and the ESPN crew was hyping him up as “The Wild Thing” etc and right on cue a geeked-up Zach uncorked a wicked tailing fastball and KP simply said “FILTH!!”. that was fun…

He is punished cuz the team around him wasn't great? He a had great season in line numbers wise with anyone on this list. He just had the misfortune to play for LSU in a year where we didn't have any starting pitchers.

Gervase obviously isn't Boutte but would you omit him from a list of great LSU WRs because his team's record is 11-12 over his first 2 seasons?

Fournette never won anything of note while at LSU either, is he not arguably the best RB we have ever had?

Bertucinni should make this list way before reyz or chad jones.

Also, ott and hess has shitty seasons after great ones. Think you have to factor that in and remove them from contention. Im partial to chris cotton. Would also consider hunter newman and rick greene

I've never had less confidence in a pitcher that could strike out the side.

Does the board think we are on a better position with pitching in general then we used to be? I say there is no way. In the 90’s we could hit the hell out of the ball and always seemed to have some badass starters and relievers.

And Dreadlocks of Doom (despite the chuckles in the thread, he was clutch in limited activity) Curious what he would have been like only baseball

Yes, he started a lot in 2009, but he also relieved in key games/series. In one weekend he could both start and relieve. He was extraordinarily valuable in 2009.

I’m just saying, down the road, years from now, nobody in hell is going to remember gervase as one of the all time great relievers.

I’m
Not taking away anything from him or saying anything negative but it’s just not happening

I’m old. I remember going to the Winn Dixie Classic back in the day and watching Deion Sanders run like the wind. Manuel fit the personality and velocity. And he was slight of frame

There were some really great starters that were relievers for Skip early on. Some were middle relief. I think Mike Sirotka or John ODonohue or Russ Springer???? Can’t remember. There was so much talent from 1989-1996 pitching it was sick.
