A few days before the ASB, my son legit texted me and asked me if Maton was autistic. Dusty is trying so hard to make him an integral part of this pen, meanwhile Seth Martinez just keeps getting people out.

With Pressly and Montero not available and having a DH Thursday, he kinda had to go to Maton. It doesn't mean we have to like it though

Ok baws , so update on my search to watch the Astros from yesterday -

I’ve decided to purchase NORD VPN for the next few months, and install in on my Firestick. I have an MLB TV sub, so will use that to hopefully watch the Astros.

Currently is working with the White Sox game. Fingers crossed

I disagree. Quite honestly, I trust Martinez or Abreu just as much if not more than Maton at this point.

Let me know how it works. I'm evaluating options while I give the streams a few more days to see if they get shite sorted out.

Will do.

In other news. BOS Devers possibly headed to IL with hammy.

Red Sox to sell? Any RP that could help maybe?

Nothing in the pitching department. I wish Buc-ee's Devers was available.

I had to school myself on the new playoff format, I'd kind of lost track of what they're doing doing this year.

Division winners get the top 3 seeds based on record, followed by 3 wild card teams making up 4-6 seeds. The 1 and 2 seeds get a bye while the 3 seed Division winner will host the 6 seed and 4 will host 5 in a best of 3 series. The #1 seed will face the 4/5 winner and #2 seed will face the 3/6 winner. So here's what the current playoff picture looks like

Division leaders
#1 Yankees (65-30)
#2 Astros (62-32)
#3 Twins (50-44)

Wild Card Standings
#4 Rays (52-41)
#5 Mariners (51-43)
#6 Blue Jays (51-43)

#5 Mariners @ #4 Rays ----> #1 Yankees

#6 Blue Jays @ #3 Twins ----> #2 Astros

Blue Jays are stacked with talent but we can beat them

I want no part of Tampa idc if they are having their worst year in a few seasons. I have hated playing them since 2015

Minnesota is the least scary team of that bunch to me honestly. If Boston somehow sneaks in then I’d prefer them but that’s looking unlikely

I agree with everything except not reseeding here and giving the #1 seed the lowest advancing seed. Makes that #1 a little more valuable, imo.

After further review, I agree with your disagreeing. I thought Martinez and Abreu pitched in the DH Thursday---they didn't. It was Maton who pitched, which makes the decision to pitch him over the other 2 even more perplexing...

I had remembered some chatter about giving the #1 their choice of who they wanted to play but I guess they scrapped that. They paired 1 with 4/5 to avoid having 1 paired up with a division winner who you'd generally think beats a #6 wild card team.

But the wild card teams coming out of the east are probably better than the Twins or Indians out of the central.

I like Strahm on Boston if they actually sell, think hes a free agent after this year though he’s on the IL right now. I would be surprised if they fall far enough back to really sell off but a rental reliever perhaps

He probably sees the same thing we all see, this is World Series pitching staff with a long relief hole in the pen.

If he is healthy enough to be a starter, keep the 6th man rotation with a Jose/odor platoon day as the 6th starter. If he isn’t healthy enough start put him in the platoon day.

With the short leashes in the playoffs, even if they’re only comfortable pushing him to 90 pitches, I’d still think he’s your best bet as #3 starter.

I’d want a guy with injury concerns to know when he’s pitching instead of waiting in the bullpen.

Javier deserves a playoff rotation spot at the moment, but I also like that he’s proven he’s effective out of the pen

Good to see Jake not being tentative at all on that play.

The Astros are probably without Ryne Stanek, Phil Maton, Héctor Neris and maybe Rafael Montero today. Dusty Baker acknowledged pregame that Bryan Abreu and Parker Mushinski will be called upon first after Justin Verlander exits. A deep start would be welcomed
