Going in assumption: murders hurt people!
(Not just those murdered, of course)

What can the U.S. learn from these countries?

LINK

Primary factors:

quote:

Countries with the widest gaps between rich and poor are four times more likely to experience violent crimes than other countries. High poverty and crime go hand in hand; crime drives away businesses and investors, reducing available human capital and creating an insecure environment, which, in turn, leads to more poverty.

Organized crime, like gangs and drug trafficking, also contribute to high murder rates.

Drug and alcohol use is also related to high murder and poverty rates. Intoxication increases the risk of being involved (either as the guilty party or the victim) in a murder.

Countries that are experiencing political turmoil and violent conflict are also more likely to experience high murder rates.

These countries are doing something right, with respect to their murder rate:

Singapore (Population: 5,638,700 - Murder Rate: 0.2 per 100,000)

Japan (Population: 126,150,000 (11th Largest Country) - Murder Rate: 0.2 per 100,000)

Switzerland (Population: 8,570,146 - Murder Rate: 0.5 per 100,000)

United Arab Emirates (Population: 9,599,353 - Murder Rate: 0.5 per 100,000)

South Korea (Population: 51,709,098 (28th Largest Country) - Murder Rate: 0.6 per 100,000)

Czech Republic (Population: 10,649,800 - Murder Rate: 0.6 per 100,000)

China (Population: 1.4 Billion (Largest Country) - Murder Rate: 0.6 per 100,000)

Austria (Population: 8,857,960 - Murder Rate: 0.66 per 100,000)

Italy (Population: 60,359,546 (23rd Largest Country) - Murder Rate: 0.67 per 100,000)

Spain (Population: 46,733,038 (30th Largest Country) - Murder Rate: 0.70 per 100,000)

Be glad that Murder Rate is not an Olympic event because America's exceptionalism relative to the world is the opposite direction of where most society's want to be when it comes to murder rate.

Our leadership is too weak and too PC to ever treat crime the way it should be treated.

Most of those countries have homogeneous societies.

Most of those countries have a very strict disciplinary culture, a heavy emphasis on respect for elders and the law, a tradition of manners and protocol, and a more homogenous population.

Remember that guy that got caned for chewing gum in public in Singapore?

The biggest problem in the USA is you aren't allowed to say the real problems out loud. How can you ever solve a problem you can't acknowledge?

Probably cause jail here is considered a tax payer funded vacation. Free food, friends, free board, no job, access to Drugs and no physical labor.

Same problem with food stamps and ebt, you can't make the stuff comfortable for them and expect them not to take advantage

Highly doubt many guys in the UAB get out of prison and would feel indifferent about going back. If they ever get out they're behaving out of fear of punishment

A subset of our population in America that likes to put another A word in front of how they are identified are largely uneducated and do not value life.

They reproduce at a faster rate than they kill each other however.

I tried to have this conversation a couple weeks ago, it just devolved into the usual racism and tribalism.

America is either going to have to go full authoritarian or at some point recognize the crippling wealth gaps, poverty, inequality, and sense of basic needs going unmet are simply reinforcing vicious cycles of crime, violence, and social unrest.

Every response so far has missed the mark. The only thing that matters is the drug problem in the country and our approach to solving it has failed miserably.

crippling wealth gaps,

The amount of wealth held by those at the top has nothing to do with the crime committed by those at the bottom, nor is their wealth preventing those at the bottom from increasing their socioeconomic standing.

quote:

inequality

Inequality is a necessity. Unequal input into society shouldn’t mean equal outcome.

quote:

basic needs going unmet

Basic needs are being met by all those who want them met.

None of those cultures have vilified The family unit and pushed for single parent homes.

The fault of the individual, caused by decades of social erosion due to shitty urban policy.

If you can't make it here, you can't make it anywhere. You soys are going to have to learn personal responsibility.

t recognize the crippling wealth gaps, poverty, inequality

Amazing how Democrats always resort to class warfare to excuse how terrible they actually are.
Its always someone elses fault, usually the guy with more resources than a Democrat.
