Conspiracy nuts: How was John Wilkes Booth allowed to get into the presidential box?

From Wikipedia:
There’s some convenient shite going on here. Did anyone check to see if the guard or valet were connected to Andrew Johnson?
quote:
With Crook off duty and Ward Hill Lamon away, policeman John Frederick Parker was assigned to guard the Presidential Box.[36] At intermission he went to a nearby tavern along with Lincoln's valet, Charles Forbes, and Coachman Francis Burke. It was also the same tavern Booth was waiting by having several drinks to prepare his time. It is unclear whether Parker returned to the theater, but he was certainly not at his post when Booth entered the box.

There was no real secret service back then, just random police or soldiers who would sometimes be asked to do it.
The guy just basically walked in.

Booth was a renowned actor and some say his impersonation as a theatre usher was the best performance of the night.

if he was super famous I guess it also wouldn't be a huge deal to see him walking towards the presidential box in a theatre. I think mostly the protection was just shitty because it was 1865

There was at least one other assignation on Lincoln, that I know of... He was out riding his horse one afternoon when someone took a shot at him and the bullet went threw his top hat. Lincoln excused it as a hunter's bad aim. I am sure some of the historian's here can add to some other attempts.

In the early days of the presidency you could walk right in to the his office. He was supposed to be a servant of the people. A more idealistic time.

There little to no protection for the President back then. I think that as late 1900 you could just walk up to the White House and visit.

Andrew Johnson was also a target that night, though his attacker backed out. The policeman assigned to Lincoln’s booth at the theatre seemed to have a drinking problem. He would eventually be fired for being drunk on the job a few years later. If you’re really interested of the events of Lincoln’s assassination, read the book Killing Lincoln. It’s a solid read and covers it in great detail.

Someone should have assignated your English teacher.

Protesters or people with requests used to be able to hang out inside in the White House back then, it wouldn’t have been that difficult to access the president at a theater

Another good book on Booth is American Brutus.

If they had had metal detectors at the time, I wouldn’t have been surprised if history recorded that the guard, valet, and coachman conveniently unplugged it right as they decided to head out to the same tavern Booth was waiting in.

Cassidy Hutchinson said - she was told that Honest Abe ordered the mags be removed

He probably got there the same way I did. Walked up the steps.
I could have had him...
