Ruth

Mantle
Gherig
DiMaggio

Rivera
Reggie Jackson
Berra
Whitey

I mean if you look at all the great players who played for the Yankees...Roger Clemens, Ricky Henderson, A-Rod, Winfield, Goose Gosage, the list can go on and before you get to Jeter.

As a Yankee eliminates Henderson, Clemens, ARod, etc as their impact on the Yankees and what they did for the franchise is less.

They were better players over the course of their career with multiple teams

This is just as dumb as claiming he's top 3.

Agreed. I don’t know what’s dumber — claiming Jeter is the best Yankee ever or claiming he’s a mediocre player who shouldn’t be in the HOF.

As I said in an earlier post, he’s not in the top 4 (Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle), but he’s unequivocally in the second 4 with guys like Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Mariano Rivera.

The guy had the 6th most hits in MLB history, above players like Cal Ripken and Willy Mays.

I can see Babe, Gehrig and DiMaggio in that order, but after that if you go strictly by the numbers Jeter is next. A more consistent hitter than either Mantle or Berra....neither hit .300 lifetime whereas Jeter was .310. Mantle and Berra were on those monster Yankee teams of the 50s and early 60s. Mantle gets the glory because he was a slugger If you get down to it Jeter had some monster teams with the Yankees. 5 World Series Championships is pretty damn good in this day and age with free agency.

So
Ruth
Gehrig
DiMaggio
Jeter
Mantle
Rivera
Ford
Berra

Jeter has more doubles and singles in yankee history. Most on base percentage, most hits, most at bats.

He's every bit the player Mantle was without the booze.

Brether, Mantle won 3 mvps and came in 2nd three other times

Jeter was never even the best SS in the league at any point lol

Ruth was the 20s...Won 4 titles in a Yankees uniform...(3 in a Red Sox)

Joe DiMaggio was the 30s and 40s...Won 9 titles in a Yankees uniform.

Mickey Mantle was the 50s and 60s...Won 7 titles in a Yankees uniform.

great player, but extremely overrated simply because he played in New York.

They were comparable players in different eras . I put Jeter slightly ahead because of batting average. Mantle was great but he also had the advantage of playing at a time when baseball was mostly a northeastern and Midwest game and he was a slugger. In his era someone from New York or the area always had an advantage in MVP voting . In the 50s to early 60s there was probably no one greater. But in the 90s and 2000s I would not trade Jeter's consistency in all aspects of the game. Probably would not trade him in the 50s and 60s with his numbers.

I also forgot to add Bill Dickey to all time Yankee greats. He was every bit as good as Berra with a .317 lifetime and more homeruns. People always seem to forget him. I think he had 7 world Series titles to his name as a player.

No one cares about batting average

Would you take someone who got on base 42% of the time, or 37% of the time?

Derek Jeter did nothing better than Micky Mantle

Mantle 110 WAR

Jeter 67 WAR

Their different in WAR equals Don Mattingly’s career. Who was a 6x all star & league mvp

Mantle as a player was worth as much as Jeter & Mattingly combined. He was that good

As a player he’s probably not top 10 Yankees. In popularity, he’s behind Ruth and Mantle only.
