My brothers and I are currently debating his rank in the franchise. They are claiming he's top 3, I say he's top 10 definitely, but I don't really know if he's a top 5 all time Yankee.

Babe
Gehrig
DiMaggio
Yogi
Mantle
Whitey Ford

Are all players that I would either definitely rank over him or could conceivably have ranked above him.

What say you?

Anybody who thinks Jeter was a better player than Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, or DiMaggio is huffing glue

Throw LeMahieu up there as well.

They are idiots.

Probably, when you consider postseason success.

Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio are no doubt ahead of Jeter.

They're Yankees fans. I don't really know how they can say that he's a top 3 guy considering who else is in their franchise history.

He’s definitely behind:

Ruth
Gehrig
Mantle
Ford
DiMaggio
Berra

Was he more dominant at his position than Mariano Rivera?

I’d probably put him 7th or 8th.

I’m a Yankee fan who loves Jeter, and this is laughable.

Ruth is unquestionably #1, and #2 through #4 is some combination of Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle.

The next four in no order are Berra, Jeter, Whitey Ford, and Rivera.

Jeter is top 8, but he’s not on the Mount Rushmore of the Yankees.

Not a great shortstop and a top 8 Yankee of all time. What an enigma.

Top 5 WAR is:
1) Ruth (143)
2) Gehrig (113)
3) Mantle (110)
4) Joe D (79)
5) Jeter (71)

Rivera came in at 56, but obviously as a pitcher it’s not quite apples to apples.

Must be nice to play for 20 years in the NY market.

Damn, if Mantle hadn’t been a raging alcoholic and fricked up his knee. Maybe the most overall talented baseball player of all time.

For discussion, I’ll present a group you could make an argument for. Not exhaustive, just off the top of my head and in no particular order:

Mantle
Ruth
Bonds
Griffey
Mays
ARod
Josh Hamilton

I think it was less the alcoholism and more the playing with no knees his entire career. Thanks, Joe frickin DiMaggio.

Jeter is a past Captain. To know he had unrivaled support from Players, past Players, Management. and Ownership solidifies his place in Yankee lore. Ranking Yankee greats is an exercise in futility. It's Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Yogi, and the rest.

Tommy Lasorda played and coached for a long time. He said Mantle was the best player he ever saw.
