Bull shite. Guarantee he'd be glad you didn't have it as hard or have to do what he did. Id even bet part of why he did it was in hopes his kids and grandkids would have it easy. Living a good, easy life is exactly what he'd want for you.

you may still get your chance but it will be on this soil.

The Greatest Generation would be equally disappointed on both sides. Two sides of morons who are not willing to give an inch.
I have some views that lean more to the right some that lean more to the left, but because I don't support all of one side, I get both sides telling me I am a moron, which tells me all I need to know. I am far from the one who is a moron.

The field maps were mis-labeled "Pointe Du Hoe".

Your grandfather was a man to be admired.
I just watched the documentary D Day at Pointe Du Hoc on prime. Those men were amazing scaling the 100 foot cliff with Germans firing and throwing grenades at them. The fact that 225 men landed and 90 walked away when it was over lets us know how dangerous their mission was.
Lt Col James Earl Rudder commanded and later was in the battle of the bulge. He later became a major general and president of Texas A&M.
This documentary is well worth watching.

I beg the differ. You have their blood running through your veins. If the opportunity presents itself you will arise to the occasion.

I work for a federal agency, we must have gotten 10 pride month emails, 0 DDay emails. It is one of the most important days in human history.

God Bless Your Grandfather and Father. You do what is necessary if and when the time comes. That will be brave enough!

The greatest generation did not fail at parenting, but I am certain your parents failed you

. I went to Normandy in April of 2019 just weeks before the 75th anniversary of D Day. As part of a fascinating tour we went to Pointe du Hoc and heard all about your grandfather’s exploits. He was a hero.

Happy birthday to him. I feel such a wuss compared to my grandpa. He flew with Butch OHare in the Pacific. He lost some of his pec and bicep from a round or shrapnel that went through his plane. He was credited with taking down a Zero and a bomber. He ran out of gas on a return flight once and had to crash land. Wandered through some cactus infested scrub all night until he found a medical outpost. He never really told us about the bad parts of war. He just told us lighthearted kids versions.
Most of what I remember about him is that he did everything himself. If he wanted to build a house, he bought a book and did it himself. If he wanted a trailer, he made it himself. I don’t believe there’s anything he couldn’t do. And he wore his mechanics jumpsuit everywhere…wedding, funeral, Sunday lunch a Shoneys.
