Monterrey shale in California, too. Although, that is known to be in the ground, just unable to be extracted at this time.
California oil is low gravity, viscous heavy oil. The Monterrey is a source rock for much of it. It is too thermally immature for large scale drill and frac unconventional production. Maybe offshore where it’s might be more deeply buried and hence hotter it might work. But the Feds and California will have none of that.

The Permian Basin is one of the oldest and most well-known hydrocarbon-producing areas. Since the first well drilled in the basin in July of 1920, over 30 billion barrels of crude have been recovered, with experts predicting there are at least 20 billion barrels remaining. Production hit a peak in the early 1970s due to the Arab oil embargo before steadily declining to a low after the 2008 recession.

I work out there on a drilling rig and I can tell you this. Yes lots of oil and still lots left to get. However, it’s getting more and more challenging and expensive to get to it due to the injection wells. When you produce oil, water comes with it. They have to do something with the water so they inject it shallower than the production shale. So while they are drilling if there is an injection well near by it can be very challenging. In most cases it forces them to run an additional string of casing which increases costs. There is probably another 2-3 years of decent drilling left before there is just too many injection wells.

It comes from what is called amorphous kerogen. It is mostly made up of algal material. There are kerogen’s from the sea and kerogen from freshwater lakes. Kerogen from freshwater lakes has higher lipid content because the algae needed it to float in the photic zone in the less dense fresh water. It is waxier. And all this was figured out long ago.

You don’t know shite then…not sure why you would even chime in?

At least I worked 35 years in the oil business. I suspect you are a plant worker or redneck.

They don't want you to know that it is renewable and screws up their timeline for evolution.
I don’t know shite about shite.
But I believe there is many lifetimes of oil and natural gas under the ground.
I also believe it could be limitless because it is renewable.

The world hit peak oil back in the 1980s
The problem for the above is we have more “oil” today than we had before people in the 1980s thought ever existed

I've always had a problem with the term "fossil fuel"
I believe its a renewable resource the earth provides through chemical breakdowns from its core temperatures.
Potentially, we don't know. But fossil fuels is still a decent name, as we've found fossils in it.
Could also be the opposite, maybe oil covered huge amounts of the earth, and it broke down into CO2 and water, maybe we're helping the earth by burning it?

You are correct, however we are using it faster than the earth is making it. Much faster.
Since oil is made from other earthen materials, maybe we should focus more resources on learning how we can expedite making it.
If we focus on solar and wind, it requires that we enable as many people as possible to acquire new man-made equipment to extract and store solar energy. Then we have to maintain this equipment that degrades and loses efficiency over time. Are these materials more renewable than oil? Will we be extracting these materials faster than the earth produces them?
Do you really think that’s sustainable? Where will we dump all this unusable solar and wind equipment. What do we use to keep windmills oiled? Where do we get the plastics for new solar panels? What new materials from the earth to we mine and extract to create batteries? Will we be extracting these materials faster than the earth produces them?
How about we just re-commit to nuclear?

By what metric will we determine that there are too many injection wells, and how would that be an obstacle for new drilling? Are we running out of potential holes?

I'm convinced some of you are bored and just want to jockey back and forth with who can make up the most absurd stupid thoughts.

200 years? Who knows.
But it is a metric shite ton of oil.

Great. Since most of that is on state land get to work and start producing
