The Conservancy of Southwest Florida announced record-breaking developments in its invasive Burmese python research program with the documentation of the largest python found to date in Florida. The female python measured nearly 18 feet in length and weighed in at 215 pounds.

They implanted radio transmitters into male pythons, released and then tracked them hoping they would find a female to mate with. It worked.

That thing could probably take down a small adult.

I wonder how many gators it’s eaten

Amazon sized Pythons roaming South Florida all because some dumbass wanted a snake collection and Hurricane Andrew blew it over, releasing all of them directly into the wild.

There's a reason Hawaii basically won't let any foreign animals or plants on the their islands

And I'm almost positive they said it was only 10lb python eating a 6lb deer fawn.
Their point was that these snakes are eating whitetails which are a main food source for panthers.

When my mom was a kid - probably around 1940 - her father was a farm worker. They went to FL for a season of orange picking, and she loves to tell about the panthers and snakes.

One of her stories is about a snake that she swears was 12’ long and so big around that the sticks she and her brothers banged it with didn’t bother it in the least.

I suspect pythons have long been in parts of FL.

That is exactly how these snakes eat. Swallow head first and push it into the gut until the prey disappears.

They don't have the ability to sever food in pieces.

They have seen first hand what doing so means.
