With where the league has gone, where the traditional PG is a dying breed and the strategy has become just let the best player always have the ball in his hands, I really think Dyson could be CJ’s eventual replacement. As long as he develops of course.

But a young starting core of Dyson, BI, Herb, and Zion is incredibly good. Lots of ball handling, lots of initiators, endless length and athleticism, etc etc. Add Trey, Jose, Kira, Liddell to that as well.

So I guess the end question I pose, I think we can all agree we are big Jonas fans, with him already being 30 he’s not going to be here long term. So what kind of guy do you ultimately put next to those starting 4? Is he already on the roster?

Jonas is a professional he knows how this movie ends. He’s got two guaranteed years coming and he might be a trade piece in the 2nd year. Dude has had a really good career and has made lots of money.

so let’s see. If he can keep his legs and his motor I don’t think we can do much better at moment, and going forward a guy like looney (gotta go find him) would be a good option. Will have to be a sub 10 contract though

BTW we don’t appreciate what Jonas does enough. That trade could not have been better for us on the floor

Don't forget, we have a swap with the Lakers next year, so that being a pick in the low - mid teens doesn't seem crazy. That's the range where non unicorn bigs go these days.

We really don't. I don't think it's crazy to think he reups again with the Pels. No he can't defend the P&R, but he clogs the paint so our long help defenders can block shots, rebounds the ball well to end possessions, and when he's scoring he's a net positive, even when they're hunting him in the playoffs.

They key is having enough versatility that if you need to sit for even an entire series, you can.

right, plus all our own picks. 20s is where you want to take a center (at the corresponding lower salary)

next years draft is supposed to be pretty good

Playoff Jonas should make us respect him more than he gets.

Was he spectacular? No. Was he off the fricking floor like Steven Adams was for at least one series? Also no.

Agree especially during the regular season. He will allow us to keep our big three fresh bc he is still good getting 15/10 a game but can get you 20+ if you need him too.

I don’t think Daniels is even remotely close when it comes to scoring acumen.

And honestly I think even the best case for him is not someone equipped to handle an efficient 20 shots per game

I’m not comparing Daniels to CJ. Obviously they’re entirely different. Just making the point that in today’s NBA there’s MANY types of different players you can replace CJ with whenever his time is done. You don’t have to pigeon hole it into a guy like CJ, or even a traditional PG. Though I do think Dyson is closer to that than CJ.

Jonas is essential to the team without a doubt. You can’t play against Denver or Philly without him.
But you also need a small ball 5 that can defend the perimeter and be a rim protector, b/c you can’t play against GSW or the clippers without that guy.

I don't think Dyson is remotely in that stratosphere either but I COULD see him develop into a 16-17 PPG guy that shoots upper 30s in 3s and give you 6 rebs/7 Asts and elite defense.

That's a really really good player

you’d rather have six or seven guys scoring in the teens than one or two in the 30s. CJ will be worth his money under a reasonable 2 or 3 year extension anyway. I like the direction we are going. If you don’t have a steph or a trae or a ja (and we don’t) you zig when others zag

Dyson just affects the game in so many ways with huge length

He also loves contact at the rim which I love

Someone like Mathurin is basically a better Buddy

Dyson isn't going to replace CJ. More than likely his career is deep bench or coach's DNP. The guy is too stiff to guard any position and can't shoot. Really a wasted pick by the Pels.

His passing ability is above average, good height and nothing else.
