It’s actually pathetic that you think this is some kind of slam. Now do 30/30 rifles, 12 gauge shotguns, etc.

Oh, 12 gauages you can't load a magazine into and can barely shoot 300 yards, much less with anything even close to the short-range force? Great comparison, bud.

You can't just make up or change definitions of an asssult rifle. An assault rifle is a select fire rifle that is capable of firing full auto with 1 pull of the trigger and in the case M-4 or M-16 a 3 round burst with 1 pull of the trigger.
An AR-15 is just a semi auto rifle that has a high capacity mag. Liberal gun grabbers have tried to change the definition of an assault rifle.
I guess by mmmmmmmmbeeer's logic a 30-06, 7.62mm, 300 winchester rounds should all be illegal since they carry far more take down force than the little 5.56mm round of an AR-15.
So stop trying to redifine an assault rifle.
Besides the Vtech shooter killed 20-30 with a 9mm handgun.

What animals require use of an AR to hunt? How big does your home need to be to require an AR for protection?

Other than killing people at range with ability to do so quickly, I see no purpose for an AR. And don't tell me it's to protect yourself from the gubmint...they'll overpower you no matter what the frick you have in your personal armory.

Why do you specifically hate Armalite Rifles? Can you get killed "worser" from Armalite Rifles than other types of rifles?

Bullet velocity, bullet mass, and the resulting impact is a pretty good place to start.

For instance, a .223 used in an AR will land with 335 foot-pounds of force at a distance of 500 yards! A 22, roughly the same sized bullet, will only hit with 70 foot-pounds at the same distance.

huh? So is a bolt action .308 an assault rifle? It will have a higher velo, mas, and impact than a .223 round?

No offense but thats an awful way to try and define Assault Rifle. Thats maybe defining a high powered rifle.

This is not the point you think youre making. Just by saying that youre lending more creed to our thoughts. Firstly, youre wrong. The US would never drone strike its own citizens, our soldiers would not take that order. Most are gun owning and loving citizens themselves. Secondly, Its the whole fricking point of the 2A. Its a big part of why we havent been attacked on land in 200 years. yeah our Military is nice, but so is our citizens army. Lastly, your government does not give 2 shits about you. They are run by power hungry people. Our guns are a small check on that. So if they frick me over, so be it but there are several MILLION others.

also Hogs, an AR is a great Hog gun. Invasive species that ruin crops.

Sounds like Elon doesn't know what an "assault rifle" is.

Amazing how many people know nothing about guns pretend to know everything about guns.

People forget Elon did not grow up in the United States. Foreign countries have a completely different culture and philosophy on guns. Also, he likely hasn't been around guns and isn't knowledgeable about them.

He likely has not spent much time studying the issue.

His comments are wrong and misinformed. I won't hold that against him, as I can disagree with people and still value their opinions.

I know the feeling. While I'm obviously American, and we had guns in the house, I didn't grow up shooting them. Yeah, I always had a pellet gun and shot tons of stuff, I only went hunting with my Dad twice. He grew up hunting a ton with his Dad but we had tons of family issues when I was growing up that sort of took away that kind of time. I was never nervous around them, just never saw the fascination.

Because of that I never understood what is commonly called "gun culture." Didn't look down on it like lots of people who don't like guns do, just didn't appeal to me. Once I was around more people who fell into that category, I realized their passion for them, how much nearly all of them respected the firearms they had, and how none of them EVER were the issue with "gun violence" in our country. They were an easy target to demonize with most of them being rural and less elite. They're just not, in any way, the problem and would be the only ones actually hurt by any sort of gun control laws.

Wouldn't surprise me if he knew exactly what an assault rifle is (or at least looked it up), gave an answer saying 'assault rifles should require a special permit' (which they do), and now sits back waiting for her to say "Elon agrees that AR-15 should require special permit", which is not what he said.

Since when do people have to agree on EVERY topic?

That's a liberal talking point
