What stops the government from coming door to door and making you surrender your guns

Don't tell me the second amendment because we all know the bill of rights is optional these days. So what would stop them from using the military to confiscate our weapons?

It’s the reason they would be coming to your house. It’s a slippery slope. A lot of cops would do retire .

Our government does not have the resources to take hundreds of millions of guns. Half the population is legally armed.

Is Biden going to invoke martial law? Otherwise, why would the military be used domestically as a police force?
Also, the 4th ammendment would be in play.

In reality, you probably couldn't stop them, at least at first. If there was enough popular support to keep the guns and people were outraged the public could do things like serious road blockages and stop the interstate commerce, but on an individual basis probably not much. If it came down to that I believe the lines in the sand would already have been made and a more brutal response from the government would be expected. Think pre WWII Germany.

They don’t have the personnel to do that. You realize the military is majorly made up of fat overweight people who can’t get a job.

Best thing to do if this ever happens is to hide your guns very well. Of course, this might lead to an immediate prison sentence or immediate death.

post katrina nola... NOTHING... read the great american gun grab. Nobody fought back law abiding citizens just handed over their guns at a time when they needed them most.

So you're saying what would make the constitution void where the military followed a authorities regime...?

Confiscating all guns would have such a detrimental effect on this country that we would probably never recover from it. It's not like the only guns taken will be guns that are typically thought of as murder weapons. You're talking about hunting weapons also which generate billions of dollars of revenue for federal and state governments not to mention billions in salaries of people who work in the industry.
quote:
Overall, hunting in the United States generates $25 billion dollars in retail sales and more than $17 billion dollars in salaries and wages each year, while creating sales tax, and state and federal income tax revenues for government agencies and public services of all kinds.
On the tax revenue side, hunter dollars generate $5.3 billion federally and $3.4 billion in state and local taxes. It also supports as many as 525,000 jobs both in and out of the outdoor industry to the tune of $21.5 billion in salaries and wages.

The military people themselves.
Unlike most military states, our military is made up of regular people and not a section of society that is segregated and paid more and more heavily protected than the average citizen. If those orders came through (violating the Constitution), I would imagine that 50% of the military would not follow the orders to go after American citizens.

If your boss said “go to the most redneck area of the state or the ghetto and demand people give up their guns”, would you do it? It would take a highly motivated and well paid individual to take on that mission. I would love to see it honestly.

We the people.
We are the government.
We are the government.
