Drove over to Dallas on Friday for my daughter's travel basketball team. Tournament was primarily at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, downtown. Dropped the fam off at the door, and parked in a paid lot just South of the Convention Center. Went in, watched her first game, came back to the lot. Truck was gone.

Parked for less than 2 hours. One of the worst parts was we hadn't been to the hotel yet, so all our stuff was in the truck (clothes, contacts, glasses, iPads, etc.) Replacing that stuff is going to take hours and hours.

We ended up getting an Uber and coming home that night, because we had nothing (clothes, toiletries, etc.) at that point. My daughter missed the rest of her games. Hated that.

Dallas PD didn't really give me any hope. They took about an hour and a half to get on scene (despite being in the middle of downtown). Basically, just took my account and gave me a report #. Then, got a call from them on Saturday trying to take my statement over the phone, because they weren't showing the report in their system.

All in all, it's just stuff and we'll get through it. But not a ton of fun.

If you drive a late model, half ton that thing has either been chopped to pieces by now or is south of the border.

Sorry man.

Everything you love about Texas is because of Californians.

I was the victim of a hit and run, had the car ID and license. Dallas PD was rude, had no desire to help.

That sucks, especially all the personal belongings being taken with it.

Was this a newer vehicle? Did you leave the keys in it?

Impossible. I am told on good authority here that car theft only happens in New Orleans.

I’ve had two friends get their cars stolen in Dallas and both found it within a week still together aside from the interior being destroyed by drug addicts.

Where did you park it exactly? Was it in a lot managed by a parking company or on the street at a meter?

That sucks and sorry to hear that.

This makes a good time for a PSA. Dallas is a giant shithole as well. It is a blue city in a blue county, and this point we pretty much know Democrat controlled places are among the worst places to be.

The DFW area is a great place to raise a family, work and play. Anyone wanting to come to a tournament here should always choose ones in the surrounding area and not downtown Dallas.

Did you call the company that owns the lot to make sure it wasn’t mistakenly towed?

ETA: already answered....Just asking the obvious here, but did you contact the lot management/owner? I've had this happen to friends. Thought vehicle was stolen, but the owner just had the vehicle removed from paid lot.

Sometimes they tow/impound "at owners cost" and don't put boot on or ticket. Might be a mix up with payment, putting the number in correct location, etc.

A lot don’t surprisingly end up at chop shooed. My work truck was stolen from the office in Dallas. 6 months later cops found it an hour north. Pulled over two kids riding in it.

I was grocery shopping in East Memphis yesterday, and some guy came in and said “someone just stole my truck”. He came in to buy cigarettes and was inside for 5 minutes. I ran outside to make sure my car was still there. They hit 6 or 7 different parking lots in about an hour and made off with a dozen or so vehicles.
