I just got done mowing and I look like a I got into a damn hornets nest. Welts all over arms, legs and torso. I love being outside but those little yellow bastards make it damn near impossible. Any good eradication methods?

Those fricking things piss me off more than anything else. Can't go outside when they're swarming.

I bought some of those black balls that you spray the sticky spray on that people say work so good....not a dang one stuck on it and still get attacked by 5 or more at a time trying to get into my house.

They’re not usually a problem at my house, but this year I can’t sit on my patio in early evenings without getting bit.

NW Florida. My husband got bitten on the hand and that mofo swelled up like a balloon for three days. Hope y'all don't have that happen.

Cure: get two of those electric shock raquets, dual wield, and walk through the area swinging around. They will be decimated quickly.

They are always bad where I live, but this year is worse than usual. There seem to be too many to have any chance of eradication. When I go out I wear a long sleeved shirt and long pants. And I keep a head net in my pocket and if the deer flies are bad I wear it. Then I just have to keep the fackers off of my hands.

Yep. They got my feet the other night when I was wearing sandals. Toes, ankles, arches. fricking awful. Been switching between Hydroxizine and Benadryl to get relief from the swelling and itching at night. I couldn’t even put on tennis shoes because they hurt so bad.

All flies in my are (north La) are terrible this year. My pest control company sprayed something out of a can inside the house and that really seems to kill a good bit of them (there were several dead on the floor) when I got home. I texted him to ask what the product was, and got no response. Does anyone know?
I can tell you the Zevo flying insect trap sold at HD and other stores, does not have a single fly or other bug on it. So, that was worthless attempt to control them.

I haven’t noticed deer flies so much as horse flies ,they are worse than usual.
Pretty comical watching my dog snapping at them..

Horse flies have been terrible at our house, and those bastards are out at all hours of the day and night.

Horse flies don’t bother me nearly as much. They’re slower and don’t bite right away so I can usually swat them away before they bite. Those deer flies bite as soon as they fricking land.

I know they are attracted to dark colors especially blue. I saw pictures of people using blue solo cups with sticky stuff on it while they were bush hogging and the cups were covered

Bump.
Deer flies have been terrible at my house since spring, and haven't slowed up at all. It's never been like this before. Anyone else having the same issue?
I basically can't go outside at any time of day without being attacked by multiple deer flies, and I am at my wit's end.

If you don't mind looking a little silly, deer fly patches work pretty well because they seem to prefer to dive bomb your head as their first line of attack.
If I need to do some yard work and they are really bad, I have an old hat that I use and then put some tape coated with tanglefoot - does the same thing as the patches.

They only last thru May at my place. Haven’t seen one since. But they were BAD for 2-3 months.

Thank you for using the correct term of deer fly (or buck fly) instead of calling them horse flies. Huge pet peeve of mine.
