I'm 2 min into that video and he's only created one shot (the last one when iso'd on a big).
He's OK in transition but literally wasn't creating anything. He's a great shooter and likely a great defender. A jumbo 3/D if you will.
He was only barely positive in AST/TO.

Not true but that’s just from the beginning of the season. Here’s another one with multiple examples of him doing things you say “he can’t do”.
LINK
Did you shite on Joel Embiid’s 11ppg college output or Brandon Ingram’s inability to “create shots” or Kevin Durant’s “inability to create shots” or RJ Barrett’s inability to make shots, or Trae Young’s poor shooting percentage and terrible turnover totals? There’s nothing objective about these critiques just ignorance of the differences between the college and NBA games and what translates for potential star players.

Ivey is ridiculously talented and has speed to burn that the others don’t.

I'm an idiot but I think Mathurin or Ivey will end up being the best player from this draft.

gs. Smith seems to have an extremely high floor but will not be a #1 option on offense

Why would they admit that?

I mean doesn’t he have that piece of durants game where he can shoot over basically anyone
And his ability to put the ball on the floor has to keep them honest. Which is how he can create that space
I don’t think he’s quite as advanced as Durant but he has the keys to totally open up his game based on everything he can already do

Lack of dribbling and playmaking. Unless something dramatic changes, he's going to be dependent on his teammates to get him space to cook.
Just imagine a last second possession with 15 seconds left. What is he going to do? Or how many PNRs do you see him initiating?
He just doesn't seem to be that dude, which is fine. He looks like he's going to be quite dangerous. Like a Rashard Lewis. The only guy I'm more confident will have 5+ years in a row with 17ppg or more is Banchero.

I'm saying he has a LOT of work to do here for the NBA.

“Lack of dribbling and playmaking.”
Literally no evidence to support this opinion. All the evidence is to the contrary.

He’s only 18, and his baseline is higher than most US 18yr olds to come out recently. Maybe since Durant himself

Like that comparison because they’re both really 3s who had to play 4 in college which kind of limited us seeing them in playmaking situations. Smith is somewhere in between Durant and Tatum with the combination of size and polish. Probably could’ve scored 23-25 per game at auburn if he’d have taken more than 12 shots per game.
Durant - 18.5 attempts, 25.8ppg
Smith- 12.6 attempts, 16.9ppg
At 18.5 attempts Smith would’ve averaged 24.8ppg

I just can't look at Chet and think he can hold up physically in the league. Maybe he can slightly bulk up, but even Durant looked thicker coming out of college.

i don't know about you guys, but i'm taking jabari smith with the first pick 10/10 times. he is going to be a star one day. athletic, long, silky smooth release, can shoot over anyone, has the tools to be an elite defender.

Barnes was asked about the Durant comp leading up to the Tennessee/Auburn game since he coached Durant in college and he strongly rebuffed it and said their scout on him was that he is essentially a 6’10 Klay Thompson. Cannot let him get catch and shoot opportunities or get going in the pick and pop and the key is to be physical on the catch and make him put it on the floor to beat you.
A 6’10 Klay Thompson is EXTREMELY valuable and even more valuable than regular 6’7 Klay Thompson and probably worth the #1 pick, but in that Tennessee game he was 6/9 in catch and shoot scenarios and 3/12 in non catch and shoot so I do think there’s some validity to it.
People keep pointing to the eye test or highlights itt but the Synergy numbers over the course of the season show that he is not very advanced at all as a creator or finisher and he really struggled with teams who got into him and made him go around them.
How many guys who were as inefficient inside the arc and as a creator as Smith in college suddenly became efficient around the rim scorers and creators in the NBA?

My question is what happened to basketball? More so than not, the draft rarely contains day 1 superstars. Everyone is a project down the road. I feel like the one and done rule needs to go and they need to stay three years in college and develop their game.

That’s going to be true regardless of how long guys stay in college.
