Looking to go on first guided hunt. What size and type of pack should I get ? Going to be 3-4 day hunt in New Mexico for Mule deer. Looking at Kuiu and Stone Glacier. Is this something I can get a larger than needed pack if I plan on going on larger game hunts?

I’ve packed out mule deer, antelope, and elk quarters with a Badlands 2200. Packs have improved since then, but this is the size range that might work for you.
Do you plan on ever packing and and spending multiple nights?

Absolutely. They're all cinch-able.

All those brands are good. I use a surplus ruck sack and don't have any complaints. Some things about it are better than my friends stand glacier, some things worse. It needs to be comfortable, fit your stuff, distribute weight well, and preferably be quiet, just in case.

I do plan on going on longer hunts in the future. Y’all think I need a frame pack or is that more for specific hunts?

I recommend it. They handle weight better and make better shooting rests.

Apparently I know nothing about draw hunts and I’m just a +1 and can’t hunt. I’ll just be there for support or is there something I can do like OTC?

I have a Kuiu 3200. Bought used on rokslide. It’s gotten the job done.

So you failed to draw a tag for the NM hunt? Buy a landowner tag. It might be expensive. If you plan on hunting the West, learning about the draws is a good idea.
A frame pack would be nice for packing elk quarters.

Idk about NM. Every state is different. I do know that its not an opportunity state so I doubt there are non resident OTC tags commonly available.

I have a Kuiu pro 3600 I’d sell if you are interested. It’s a large belt and tall frame.

Exo Mtn Gear - K3 4800 pack system

This is my go to pack for 5-7 days. Compresses really small also. For a three day like you mentioned, 3200 would probably be best. But if you have longer stay hunts in your future I’d go with the 4800.

As mentioned above, great load shelf for hauling meat out.

I didn’t fail as I never tried but my buddy got a draw and asked me to come along and I didn’t know how it all worked.

Check out Kifaru. Great pack and frames that are 100% made in USA. Been around a long time as well. A little more expensive but I believe that you get what you pay for.

I use Mystery Ranch. Can get them for a decent price with the 35% off military discount.

I have the Pintler and my podnuh has the Metcalf. The frames are universal so we swap the bag part with each other as needed. The Metcalf would be great for a 3 or 4 day hunt.

I heard the kuiu frames break. Is that overblown or remedied?
