LSU’s Kayshon Boutte, one of the nation’s top receivers, nearly entered the transfer portal in December and was being courted by a pair of LSU’s SEC rivals.
“I was duck hunting and got a call,” McKernan says. “I jumped in and cut a deal with him to represent my company and brand.”
McKernan declined to reveal the extent of Boutte’s contract details or the programs attempting to poach him, except to say, “Alabama and Texas A&M are very innovative.”

I question how sustainable this NIL stuff is.

Agree. Realistically, its an expense with little to nothing in return.

Do we think these boosters will just divert the money they used to blow on improvements to facilities over to paying athletes? Both are expenses with no return in my eyes.

Only a matter of time before we get some Gordon duck hunting commercials.

I don't know what LSU is doing in respect of NIL, but I have heard about some things that other SEC programs are doing. I hope we're keeping up.

Shite is wild. JIMBO said last week they will $ign the #1 class again next cycle. State of Texas is head and shoulders above everyone on this.

We can’t compete with this shite

A school like Texas A&M is desperate to win a title. They have been little brother to Texas, Bama, and LSU. They haven’t won a title since 1939 or something like that. Hitler was still alive lol. You have others that just love their football team and just wants to win at all cost and get all the best players. Boosters with a lot of money have very big egos.

depending on the donation there is likely a tax advantage for those donations

Just a marketing expense for the businesses involved.

There doesn’t need to be a cap, there needs to be a better system in place. The spirit of the NIL was great, but I think anyone could see that this would essentially turn into a bidding war for football and basketball players. Top players can use the transfer portal as a mechanism to hold their current college hostage. They’re getting cut checks simply to post an image on Instagram. I’d personally rather see some type of pay for play scheme set up under an LLC that rewards athletes for their performances on the fields of play.

Needs more than just a cap, needs serious regulation. I’m all for players making money. Shoot they make enough for the school, but this poaching of players has made it worst than unrestricted free agency. I feel bad for teams like LA Tech. The second you get a 2 star that blows up he gone.

How is that not tampering? Dude wasn't even in the portal and gets a call for nil deals on behalf of other schools. Thats like breaking the only rule they have about this.
I'm going to start offering nil deals to jackoff state for all of bamas players, get them to leave bama and tell them to frick off there is no deal.

Why not out the teams attempting to court him when he wasn’t in the portal?

Most NIL deals will not bring additional business to thje companies that pony up....they do it because they can, and it connects them to the program bigtime.

LSU better have its shite together going forward.
The McKernon safety net isn't always going to be there, nor will Gordon alone allow us to compete with A&M and Alabama when it comes to NIL.
Where LSU finishes with the 2023 class will be telling.

The NCAA just really has no sack. Bama and A&M “courted” a player who wasn’t in the portal. As long as the coaches aren’t the ones directly speaking with the player it’s not tampering. You can get a call from a booster, negotiate a contract and wait until the ink dries to “enter the portal” and nothing there is illegal in the eyes of the NCAA right now. Pay for play and tampering but on paper it’s just a random endorsement deal.
I’m curious what Gordon paid Boutte, because if the article is accurate, he could’ve hired another attorney for the price of 1 player.

Since a school can’t offer NIL deals, they aren’t tampering. It is the business offering the NIL deal that is contacting the student, thus the school is not guilty of tampering.
Of course, we know the school is directing all of this through unofficial channels and is, effectively, tampering.

because of McKernan's help if I had a big case for an attorney I would definitely consider McKernan
