I went what seems like about 20 years without seeing hardly any to seeing more in the last two weeks than I have since the late 90’s. It’s nice to go out on the back porch again in SE Louisiana and see those little flashes of light.

The city has not bee spraying for mosquitos lately. Probably because it has been dry. once they start flying the planes and spraying they will all die.

I was just commenting to my wife that have never recalled seeing this many. I take our dog for a walk every night at 8 and they’re everywhere and have been for close to a month now.

Yes. Less mosquito trucks i think is helping. I haven't seen a spray truck yet and have seen a bunch of lightning bugs

Why do we still spray for mosquitos? Is anyone is america dying from malaria with modern medicine?

I didn’t even think about that, but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen mosquitoes trucks around here. I’ll take a few more mosquitoes to have the fireflies around.

In the past few days, we have sat out a couple of evening and have not see any fireflies here in Lake Charles.

Have always had plenty of lightning bugs in GA, but then again, don’t ever recall seeing a mosquito truck in our neighborhood.

As soon as those banana spiders show up, the light show is over.

They are middle vectors for tons of diseases, not the least of which is encephalitis.

I actually saw a bunch in our pastures out past Walker on Saturday night. I was quite surprised to see them and there was a lot. Hopefully they don’t die off, we usually have a few every couple years but there was more than I have ever seen the other day.

Isn't it crazy these genius labs that can do anything with genetics, can't figure out how to stop mosquito reproduction

Saw a pile of em last night putting the trash out. Was the first this year I’ve noticed them also.

I will keep a look out tonight. We see them when we go to the mountains during the summer but I can't recall the last time seeing them here. When I was a kid we caught them all the time.
Its the mosquito trucks for sure.

Wet winter + wet spring = more fireflies according to entomologists.

Something magical about them. I havent seen any in years, but when I was a kid, the summers nights were full of them. Kids chasing fireflies is one of life's simple pleasures.
