Why is Louisiana so divided?

North Louisiana hates South Louisiana. South Louisiana hates North Louisiana. New Orleans hates the North Shore. Lafayette hates BR.
Just seems like the idea of STATE pride is non-existent. In other states when it comes to state pride it seems like people view their state as one state. They don’t shite on other regions to the extent that LA does.

Born and raised in South Louisiana, currently live and work in North Louisiana. They are not the same state.

I wish this was true

There’s a lot of shite to go around. Maybe that’s the heart of it.

Go tell that to an Alabama and an Auburn fan.

Microculture. Unlike any other state in the union

People would rather hate than love.
...and Jesus wept.

As a Lafayette area resident, I don’t hate BR. It’s a shithole for the most part, but I don’t have a reason to hate it

I only hate JBE voters. I DGAF where they live, who they frick, who they pray to, or what their race is. If they voted for that POS, frick them with a barbed wire bat.

To be fair, Houston hates Dallas. We don’t know why tho.

They hate the teams. They don’t hate the state. Not the same at all.

Based on the responses, this is still holding to be true. So the answer unanimously seems like there’s just no state pride.

Generally speaking, people from north Louisiana have FAR more in common (religion, cultural norms, accents, etc) with people from Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas than they do with people from, say, Lafayette, SE Louisiana, etc. Now, I haven't spent a significant amount of time in every state in the US, but the only state I can think of that may have such a sharp cultural divide within the state is North v. South Florida.
I don't think there is so much a feeling of "hate" between north and south Louisiana folks, as much as an acknowledgement that they are very different.

I don't hate BR. I hate driving to BR.

That is such a lie. South Louisiana makes fun of North Louisiana way more than the other way around.

This.... everyone up here can pretty much acknowledge they are not "culturally" Louisiana. and that's fine.

Well yeah obviously. No other state or region in the country is like South Louisiana. But it’s still the same state.
