Why did this originally shut down, and is this worth checking out? Is it safe (have to ask)? I take it it is mostly ruins now. Has the city discussed redeveloping the area?

It's abandoned, in a rough neighborhood, and it's behind a sea wall and some railroad tracks. Why would you go there?

To see the ruins. I have some free time this week, and I've always wanted to check it out, and just never have.

Do you have a boat? Might be the best way to get to it.

When blacks were allowed to go to Pontchartrain Beach, there was no longer a need for a black-only amusement park.

I would feel safer walking through Mariupol to see the ruins the Russians left behind than I would parking and walking to Lincoln Beach. It is really a unsafe area to explore unless its by boat.
However Mayor Teedy just announced a $5 million dollar "Phase 1" Plan to rebuild Lincoln Beach so it looks like this.

Lincoln Beach was an amusement park in New Orleans, Louisiana, functioning from 1939 through 1965. The park was for the area's African American population during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation.
This slowly decaying Deco sign on Hayne Boulevard is one of the few reminders of the long closed amusement park
Lincoln Beach was located along the shore of Lake Pontchartrain near Little Woods, in a portion of the Eastern New Orleans section of the Ninth Ward of New Orleans that was little developed in the 1930s. The land where Lincoln Beach was located was deeded to the city by Sam Zemurray in 1938 and purchased within a year by the Orleans Levee Board.[1] The Levee Board first designated this section as a swimming area in the lake for "colored" New Orleanians, then built out additional land in the lake for the amusement park to be built on. The park was similar to the then "whites only" Pontchartrain Beach amusement park, only on a smaller scale. It featured various rides, games, restaurants, a swimming pool in addition to lake swimming, and frequent live music performances. In the last decade, Fats Domino, Nat King Cole, The Neville Brothers, and more performed there

In 1964, the courts decreed a racially nondiscriminatory policy for privately operated facilities on public lands, letting black citizens swim in other pools, and Lincoln Beach closed.

A local FQ artist has actually been restoring it on his own for the last couple years. ReggieArt is his IG handle.
However, he stopped working on it in the last couple months because a group of Hispanic people (his words) tried to ambush him. Something about a young Hispanic guy getting shot over there and I guess they think he knows something.
If you look him up on IG, you'll see all the work he's done and about how he almost got ambushed.
It seems like a really nice place to hang out, but the surrounding area ruins the appeal of going.

How are they going to make the lake look like that?

So what year did black people start wearing socks to swim?

You want to get attacked by bums?
Because that is how you get attacked by bums.

Not being from Louisiana, I thought was a Tyga Woods- type thread from Instagram. Imagine my surprise and disappoinment.

The beaches of Ew Orleans aren’t as nice as those in Cheyenne

Didn't see anything about a possible ambush. He just posted from the beach 3 hours ago.

That water looks pretty treacherous.
I guess if someone can learn to swim there, they'll be good swimming anywhere?

Watching that little video, it seemed a little like the sentiment was “well we had our own beach until desegregation came along, then they stopped funding our beach because we could go to the white beach now. Sure would be nice if we had our own beach still.”
Holy shite…I watched the whole thing. Apparently what’s holding “the community” back is not having a beach to relax at.
That and six flags.

Go back and look. April 12th he posted a video and screenshot of text saying he wouldn't be doing any more restoration work...
Guess that didn't last long.

I saw his posts on IG.
He was definitely doing some good work out there - He put his money where his mouth is.
It would be nice if others in “the community” recognize the positive impact and pitch in to help.

I’ve been following him in IG for a while. It’s nice to know there’s at least some segment of the community that calls out Teedy, along with some others, on their bullshite. Got a ton of respect for what he DOES to actually try to better his community.
