Your statement is as ignorant as where they put that bridge.
He sounds like the typical ignorant voter who keeps electing the same type of people to the legislature and propagating the problem.

a southern loop? buying land and building how many miles of roads? what bridge is the loop going to use?

The Vicksburg bridge has less than 25,000 cars per day. The I-10 Bridge in Baton Rouge tops that before 7AM every day.
The Natchez bridge has even less traffic.

Then let a private company build it, own it, and charge a toll to recoup their costs and earn a profit.

Then near St Fancisville you have a newer LEAST traveled bridge called the John James Audubon bridge opened in 2011 at a taxpayer cost of $409 million. Time for taxpayers to get their monies worth by directing motorists to cross the Ms river there.
you sir, are an idiot.

And if you combine the traffic volume on both of those bridges, the "new" bridge in Baton Rouge would still have more than double the traffic.
North Louisiana doesn't have an abundance of bridges over the Mississippi River because there isn't a need for it. North Louisiana's population is declining. The only reason the state of Louisiana isn't posting a net population loss is because of the growth in suburban parishes south Louisiana.

Already have more bridges than we need and now they want another at a cost of 2.5 billion
I think the primary issue is that LA wouldn't have received this $500M without the need for that specific bridge.
So, even if you're arguing we don't need new bridges, that's cool, but then we should give back the $500M and let another state spend it.

It called being conservative. You have a new bridge in New Roads so use it or let a new toll bridge be built and owned by private investors. $2.5 billion for a new bridge is to costly for taxpayers.

And you know what they don't have? The main east-west corridor across the entire country, passing through them.

I'm honestly starting to think we will be commuting in flying cars before this bridge will be finished.
Technology is rapidly advancing and my guess is the bridge won't be completed until 2042. Advances in Energy storage and motor efficiency mean quad copter POV's might be likely by then.
Not to mention how WFH will impact demand for highway capacity
it is truly amazing when you think about it

hey dumbass, no one in Baton Rouge will ever use the bridge in New Roads to get from Port Allen to Baton Rouge, so quit with this stupid thought. It's a worthless bridge that should have never been built where it was. It made about 30 people happy that they could use the bridge instead of the ferry each day.

Yeah, since they are doing so many good things with our tax money already. the only person that would oppose a new bridge being built are doing so for selfish reasons.

Well that’s patently false, but the rest of your point is valid. He’s obviously never used that bridge or he’d know why his OP is stupid.
Or maybe he wouldn’t.

this bridge will never be built. just money siphoned by politicians.

Is a new bridge needed -absolutely yes, with proper planning for FUTURE traffic demands, including the arterial roads/streets and proper bypasses.
In the meantime, we have the infrastructure for today’s traffic. A route from I-12 to Port Allen via Airline NB, cross old bridge, and HWY 415 SB is a perfect inner loop. This route is approximately 17 miles, compared to 11 miles via I-10 and the new bridge.
To cut travel time (which is currently 28 mins) improvements to airline need to be made so that it will be more of a limited access roadway with service roads for local traffic.

I travel this route frequently. 28 minutes is on a good day. I think it’s a good plan IF you build overpasses at every intersection and eliminate all traffic signals. Otherwise you’ve got I49 through Lafayette all over again. And that’s a shite show from Willow Street to Pinhook.
You have to get the slow moving residents of NBR who appear to have zero sense of urgency and love to drive around at rush hour(s) out of the way to make your suggestion viable.

How about getting the LOCAL cities of BR, Zachary, Baker, Central, Denham Springs, and the future St. George to fund a new bridge in the area, if they want one so badly.

OK cool
Let's get Lake Charles to fund building their new bridge, Lafayette to fund building I-49, and F any infrasturcture that might assist macroeconomic commerce in this state
While we are at it, let's get Shreveport/Alexandria/Nola/Lake Chuck to start paying us back for the loops our entire state paid for back in the day. Adjusted for inflation of course...
