Crazy idea: Should the US Govt buy twitter?

I don't want political backdoors that will DEFINITELY manipulate what info gets put out and which gets censored.
You would want the Biden administration to have complete control over Twitter?

Imagine Twitter promoting and filtering all the same information but completely denying it.

That happens today without any recourse. With this you at least have some legal recourse through the courts.

As we go more and more digital, what protections does an individual have to participate in the public square beyond buying their own server?

This administration and any other leftist administration would censor the hell out of opposing viewpoints, facts, and data.

Twitter is already doing the establishment’s bidding.

Seems like it would be exactly as it is now. Anything pro right wing would be deemed “dangerous or unsafe speech” and scrubbed.

Why? Big Tech already IS the government and controls what we do.

Exactly. We need a public square or sidewalk where thoughts and ideas can generally be expressed without censorship.

I know it’s not perfect but as long as individuals control a platform, it will never be free. It must be governed by a constitution that holds freedom as the highest value. We will always have abuse but today there is little protection from abuse on the platforms we interact with digitally today.
