Seahawks Trade DK Metcalf to the Saints
quote:

Deal: Saints get WR DK Metcalf; Seahawks get 19th pick, 120th pick, 2023 second-round pick
After Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill were traded and landed top-of-the-market deals, the trickle-down effect was massive for other young receiving stars. Stefon Diggs quickly signed a four-year, $96 million extension with the Bills. Then speculation became louder about the futures of Deebo Samuel and DK Metcalf. Metcalf is particularly interesting heading into the final year of his deal. The 6'4", 235-pound receiver is the most gifted in the league based on stature alone, and the 24-year-old has posted impressive production to go with his physique, having put up 216 catches, 3,170 yards and 29 scores in three seasons. However, his place with the Seahawks is questionable after star QB Russell Wilson's departure. Will the Seahawks extend him for $25 million per year if his stats regress with Drew Lock or Baker Mayfield throwing to him? Metcalf might not even be interested in continuing with a franchise staring down a rebuild, especially if Pete Carroll decides to retire as he turns 71 this fall. Trading Metcalf now would be the best way to maximize their return for the star. New Orleans, after acquiring a second first-round pick from the Eagles, is a perfect landing spot for Metcalf. The Saints need another proven pass-catcher to pair with Michael Thomas, given the uncertainty his injuries over the past two years have created. Their continued wizardry with the cap eases any long-term concern of their ability to structure a deal that works for both parties. The NFC appears as open as ever after so much talent shifted to the AFC this offseason. New Orleans could be a force if QB Jameis Winston stays healthy and it adds Metcalf.

I would love to see this trade happen, BUT overall, I just don't think that it would bode well for us in the long-run. MT and Metcalf would clash heads in the locker room. They both want the ball as much as possible, and I just see another Jimmy Graham, or Brandin Cooks scenario playing out.

That being said, I would love to see him opposite MT giving us the physicality we so desperately need in the red-zone without a solid TE. But having MT, Metcalf, Harty and Kamara....Lord. I feel as though you could throw the ball up sometimes and he would make a play out of it.

So no first or second rounder the next two years. Oof. Pass. I’ll take my chances with a Rook.

No.

Would rather one of the top young WR in this draft on a rookie contract for a few years. Especially if MT13 is staying put.

Heavy pass. The cost in draft capital and a new contract would be too great.

Wouldn’t mind it but it’s clear we aren’t looking to take on massive salaries at this moment

Would be terrible value for a 1 year player. I don’t see the Saints signing Metcalf to a market reset deal and I believe Metcalf will be looking for one. So, you trade a 1st, 4th & future 2nd for a guy that’ll be here for 1 year?

Dumb. Use that 1st round pick on a WR. I’m not giving Metcalf $25+ million per year. I’d rather have that money to fill other holes.

You can make the money work so I sort of understand the trade - we won't be playing an QB a mega-deal for the foreseeable future. The league has morphed into a weapons league - the trenches have been devalued to some degree. If both DK and MT13 are long term assets it's manageable from a cap perspective.

I don’t really get all the hate for the trade. This board seems to think we have a loaded roster that is ready to compete for playoffs and more now, yet wants to pass on the second biggest game breaker in the nfl behind Hill for an unproven rookie. Either you go for it or you don’t.

We have zero guarantees MT will be the same player as before and Metcalf is a complete freak of nature.

Pass. He’s gonna cost a lot after next year. I’d rather gamble on a first round WR at 19 who will be cheap for 5 years, especially in this current WR market.

DK Metcalf has never been Top 10 in yards in his career. Why would we give up the future for a #2 WR?

Adams, Hill and Metcalf. One of these isn't like the others.
