Does anyone find the whole idea of Patreon off putting and weird

There are plenty of shows or podcasts or whatever I wouldn’t mind throwing a few dollars at. A tip as you will for enjoying their stuff. But then I go onto their patreon and I see what they’re charging for and it just looks gross. Especially charging people for spending time with them.
Like “for $30 a month, you and other strangers on the internet can spend 30 minutes talking to me.” I can not imagine how awkward those conversations have to be.
The whole thing just sounds incredibly awkward.

I understand they need to prioritize their time. And that incentivizing on their time is necessary. Doesn’t make it any less awkward

I fully understand these people need to be paid, and that direct payment helps stop commercials in podcasts and what not, I just can’t pull the trigger to pay for it.

When a lot of artists put their stuff out there for free, why not give people the opportunity to contribute if they like their work

Throwing $3.50 your way in the superchat

I thought Patreon was like the first Onlyfans, no?

I had never heard of Patreon before this post.

I subscribe to multiple podcast Patreons, all are $5 and come with an additional hour or so episode each week. That’s essentially $5 for four hours of entertainment each month, which is worth it.

I prefer to give money directly to folks than have it trickle down to them via ad revenue.

Patreon is a shite company and I would never give any show money through them, but giving directly to a show you enjoy so they make more money rather than some woke company like Patreon, Youtube or Spotify just makes sense. Why make these leftists more money?
Contributing directly also helps insulate these people from being canceled by the woke mob when they tell the truth about something.

Tim Dillon gives you 4 hours of content each month for $5. Pretty hard to beat.
I have never seen anyone charge $30. That's silly. I wouldn't pay $30 for a streaming service, much less one person's content.

I pay $5 a month for the Jason Ellis show since they were fired from satellite radio. They also have free podcasts but most of the free ones are interviews which he’s terrible at
