All insurance is a ripoff until you don’t have it and need it…
But it would say it depends on what your limit is for the amount of money you would spend to cure/keep animal alive.

It was worth it in our case.
2 yo corgi tore her ACL. Should pay for the majority of her surgery.

I sure wish I had gotten it. My lab has Addisons and gets a nearly $200 shot every month.

Unless dog fighting pit bulls, no.
Save for your rainy day funds - like finance experts suggest.
Take money otherwise would have spent on pet ins and invest it.

its a scam to get your money
but at the same time, if you have a beloved pet who gets hurt and needs surgery it can cost thousands and if they have cancer and you want them treated it can get into tens of thousands if they last years
but its so damn hard to let money over rule common sense on costs of a family pet even before the wife and kids guilting you factor into it

My wife has worked for a pet insurance company for 4 years. She would be the first to tell you it's worthless.

No man are you serious, just don’t buy a $2,500 dog.
You know they give em away for free if you want one.

Pet insurance- LOL
I remember when our family dog got into some garbage, got sick, and kidney's shut down. The vet recommended dialysis...my Dad asked how much it would cost and it was some crazy number.....then he asked how much to put him down? Vet said $100.
You can guess which way that decision went.

Insurance is like a casino. The house knows the odds better than you. Your premium is a bet that you will have more covered losses than the odds suggest.

Paid like 90% on that, the near inevitable other knee popping and a third surgery to pull some hardware out. I can insure every dog the rest of my life and come out ahead still

just get a young mutt they always end up being the best dogs, these expensive dogs have health problems, do a dog a favor and get one from the kennel, you can thank me later.

I'm pretty against the idea of pet insurance if I'm being honest. This is coming from someone who has paid out of pocket for 2 TPLOs and a mass removal.
But thats a sad story. Whose garbage was it? I sure hope not your own, that makes your dad sound like a prick.

And when you go to use the insurance you’ve dutifully paid premiums on for years, you suddenly have the urge to rewatch Falling Down with Michael Douglass.

I always just assumed it was a scam, same as I always assumed all the car warranty things are scams. Now, though a couple days ago vet says my boxer tore his acl and surgery will be between $3500 to $5000. So now I'm curious if it's something I should look into.

It was super easy dealing with mine. A basic cover sheet filled out and scan in the vets paperwork- all 3 surgeries with my digs knees were paid out within a couple weeks.
With one knee blown there is a real good chance the other is going to go someday. I’d assume it’s a “pre existing” type of situation but worth looking into to see if you could.

I only insure things I can’t afford to replace, I can replace my dog at the pound for about $50

It’s truly mind boggling the amount of info the OT is able to crowd source

Our other dog tackled her when they were running and her foot got caught.

I don't buy expensive dogs. Paid 250 for this boxer. I love this dog more than most people though.
