RALEIGH, N.C. - An inmate at a North Carolina prison was assaulted by a group of inmates and killed, state officials said Tuesday.

Semajs Short, 24, was attacked in a housing area at Bertie Correctional Institution by a number of other inmates around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, the N.C. Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Back in 2017, Short had been sentenced to 31 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl, and to attempted murder of the toddler's grandmother.

The murder happened in 2014, when Short was 17 years old. According to WRAL, the shooting was in retaliation for the murder of one of Short's friends, when Short and several others decided to target the family of the suspect in their friend's death.

And now that inmate’s family will become rich at the taxpayer’s expense.

My only question is what took so long.

If I lived in North Carolina I would put money on the attackers books.

Don’t frick with kids, ever.

Inmates get killed in prison on the regular. Who exactly is his family going to sue?

You know, the Black community at large gets hammered over a lot of social issues, but one thing they do better than any other segment is taking care of the communities when a child rapist predator is spotted on the loose.

If they catch them you never hear another word about them they just go ghost.

And if they get away and caught then incarcerated when their paperwork gets out they immediately get delt with.

It is so strange how convicts think anything goes with adults… murder, rape, torture, you name it, no matter how innocent the victims… but hurt a child, and they become the hardest moral crusaders possible.

Good. Nothing like prison justice.

Even cons have a code of ethics.
